The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 242

David was definitely feeling it, his eyes dark and a little red at the corners. But the second he heard Ella’s words, he stiffened. He looked up at her, searching her face.

Ella just glanced at the door, a hint in her eyes. “Shouldn’t you be out there sweet-talking Monica right now?”

David was sharp. He got it right away. Ella hadn’t really been coming on to him. She’d just been putting on a show for Monica.

Whatever heat had been in his gaze disappeared. He glared at Ella, cold as ice. “Get off me. Now.”

Ella didn’t argue. She slid away from him instantly.

David stood up, tall and lean, staring out the huge window. She was impossible.

“So, what do you actually want from me?” he asked, his voice clipped.

Ella didn’t waste time. “Fiona didn’t cut Monica’s safety wire. She’s innocent. I’m asking you to let her go.”

Fiona? Her best friend?

David hadn’t even paid attention to Monica’s accident, so he had no idea Fiona was involved. When Aiden had called him about it, he just told him to let Monica handle things.

So that was it. Ella was here for her friend.

David turned, a slight, cold smile on his lips. “Ella, are you begging me right now?”

Ella’s eyelashes trembled. She had to swallow her pride for Fiona. “Yes. I’m begging you.”

“If you’re going to beg, at least show some sincerity. What are you offering me?”

His bluntness made Ella freeze.

David’s eyes slid over her, lingering. He sounded half amused, half serious. “Looks like you haven’t figured it out yet. Come back when you know how you want to beg.”

He started to walk away.

Ella reached out, grabbing his sleeve. “Mr. Harmon.”

He stopped, but didn’t turn around. “Ella, I’m not a saint. Why should I do your friend a favor? Honestly, there’s nothing you have that I want. Except…” He paused, voice heavy with meaning. “Your body.”

But Mr. Lambert met her at the door, looking grim. “Ms. Irvine, we can’t see Fiona anymore.”

Ella stared at him. “Why not?”

Mr. Lambert’s expression was serious. “Orders just came down from Mr. Harmon’s office. No more visits to Fiona.”

What?

David was really this heartless. He was forcing her hand.

Fiona was stuck in there, all alone. Who knew what she was going through?

Ella’s eyes stung. She hated the idea of making a deal like that with David, but with him putting on this kind of pressure, she didn’t see any way out.

“Ms. Irvine, what should we do now?” someone asked quietly.

Just then, Ella remembered someone who might be able to help. Atlas.
