The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 245

David’s Adam’s apple moved with a careless swallow. She had the kind of beauty that seemed almost unreal, like she didn’t belong to this world. But here she was, sending him flirty GIFs even when he was in the middle of something important. She was an angel on the outside, but deep down she was pure mischief.

She knew exactly what she was doing. She knew how to get what she wanted.

Mark grinned. “Mrs. Harmon looks so young. She must be clingy. Are you sure you can handle her?”

Having a gorgeous, younger wife was one thing. Actually keeping up with her was another.

David glanced out at Ella. He honestly didn’t know. Things between them hadn’t gotten that far yet, and he couldn’t say if he’d be able to keep up when they did.

Just then, his phone buzzed again.

He opened the message from Ella. [Mr. Harmon, are you up to it or not? If you aren’t, I’m leaving.]

Damn!

He swore under his breath. How was he supposed to get any work done when she was like this?

Outside, Ella was in a great mood. She knew David would never ditch his work for her, which made teasing him even more fun. She took a slow sip of her coffee and got up to go.

Suddenly, a deep, smooth voice came from behind her. “Where are you going?”

That voice…

Ella spun around and saw the conference room doors opening. David was standing there.

He actually came out?

He walked over, closing the distance between them in just a few steps. “Come on.”

Ella blinked, a little thrown off. “Where?”

David reached for her hand, his palm warm and steady. He gave her soft fingers a gentle squeeze and said, “Wherever you want.”

Ella couldn’t think of a single thing to say.

Ella’s gaze slid to David’s sharp, handsome face, and she smiled, her eyes dancing. “He’s just full of himself. He thought I couldn’t speak French.”

Mark laughed and glanced at David. “Mr. Harmon, looks like your wife has plenty of surprises for you. You’ll just have to keep discovering them.”

Surprises, for sure.

It felt like there were so many little secrets about her, just waiting for him to figure out.

David held Ella’s gaze for a long moment, then told Mark goodbye. He took her hand again and led her away.

David led Ella down the stairs, her hand still in his. She tried to pull away, not quite meeting his eyes. “You should get back to work. I was just messing with you earlier.”

David opened the passenger door of his Rolls-Royce and, without giving her a chance to protest, gently guided her inside.

He leaned against the open door, a slow, teasing smile curling on his lips. “Are you done messing with me? Because now it’s my turn.”
