The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 246

What was he even saying right now?

Ella could tell he’d dropped the act. The real David, the one who was always a little dangerous and a little too honest, was back. She used to think she wanted to rip off his mask and see what was underneath. But now that it was gone, she wasn’t so sure anymore.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom moved quietly down the street, everything outside a blur. Ella glanced over at David. “Did you tell them not to let me see Fiona?”

David’s fingers rested on the steering wheel, his hands all strong lines and expensive watches. He just hummed, like it was no big deal.

So he admitted it. Just like that.

“And Atlas leaving. Was that you, too?” she asked, not taking her eyes off him.

He flicked on the turn signal, the car gliding into a slow turn. His voice was low, a little rough, almost lazy. “Atlas should have landed by now. What do you think he’s doing?”

Ella waited for him to go on.

David reached over and handed her a photo. She took it, her fingers brushing his, and looked down at the picture. Atlas was in it.

“That’s Emily Kostik,” David said. “The Moore family picked her for Atlas. He barely got off the plane before they took him straight to a meet-and-greet. Moore and Kostik are set on this marriage. It’s basically a done deal.”

The photo was taken in a private room at a ridiculously fancy hotel. Both families were there, Atlas and Emily sitting across from each other. Emily looked gorgeous, her dress a soft white, elegant in a way only someone born into old money could pull off. Sitting next to Atlas, they looked like a couple in a magazine, the perfect high-society match.

“You can believe I made Atlas leave. Or you can believe his family pulled him back. Either way, you’re not getting through the Moore family’s doors,” David said, his tone flat. “There’s no future for you and Atlas.”

Ella stared at the photo for a long time. She could see it, plain as day. Atlas and Emily really did fit together. Somehow, that made her feel happy for him.

Atlas was one of her few true friends. She wanted him to find someone who was right for him.

She slipped the photo back into its envelope. “I know I’m not good enough for Atlas. I’m not stupid.”

David let out a low, unimpressed sound. “So, where do you want to go? A hotel?”

David hadn’t once talked about having a kid. She saw the way he went silent, and she knew he had no interest in anything that permanent with her. That night had only happened because he’d been drugged, lost control, and made a mistake.

Trying to swallow the bitter taste in her mouth, Ella said softly, “How about this, Mr. Harmon. Get someone to pick up condoms, and let Fiona go. I’m not running anywhere.”

The words were barely out of her mouth when the Rolls-Royce came to a sudden stop. David got out and opened her door. “Out.”

Ella slipped out, a little lost. “Mr. Harmon, why are we stopping here?”

David nodded toward the convenience store across the street. “You wanted condoms. We’ll get them now.”

Ella just stared at him, speechless.

Without another word, David led her inside. She never imagined he’d actually walk into a store with her just to buy condoms.
