The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 292

Why isn’t Lucas picking up his phone?

Did something happen to him?

Lilly couldn’t shake the worry gnawing at her. She clutched the popcorn to her chest and dashed through the pouring rain, making her way back to Central College.

By the time she got there, she was soaked from head to toe. The popcorn, though, was still safe, tucked close against her. The movie date was ruined, but she still wanted to share the treat with Lucas.

She hurried through the halls, searching for him. Then she stopped short. Lucas was just ahead.

He wasn’t alone. Sarah was with him.

Lucas was tending to Sarah, carefully dabbing ointment on her ankle. He had stayed with her the whole time. Now that Sarah could walk again, Lucas was walking her back.

Lilly watched them together. Sarah said something, her voice soft and shy. Lucas grinned, looking happier than she’d ever seen him.

They looked just like a couple, laughing and talking together, completely wrapped up in each other.

Lilly stood frozen. Why was her fiancé with Sarah?

Was this why he skipped the movie? For her?

She felt ridiculous. She had been so worried, running through the rain like a fool, only to find him smiling with someone else.

She pulled out her phone and called Lucas again. She could hear his phone ringing in his pocket, but he didn’t even glance at it. He just kept talking to Sarah, not a care in the world.

Lilly’s heart dropped. The anger and hurt were too much to hold in. She ran over and blocked their path.

“Lucas, why are you with her?”

Both of them stopped. Sarah looked at Lilly, eyes wide and innocent. “Lilly...”

Lucas turned to comfort her. “It isn’t your fault, Sarah. If she wants to think the worst of me, I can’t stop her.”

Sarah glanced back at Lilly, a smirk playing at her lips, like she’d won something.

Lilly was furious, but she refused to let them see her break. She just turned and walked away.

Behind her, she heard Sarah ask, “Lucas, what’s your relationship with Lilly?”

Lucas was silent for a moment. Then he said, “It’s nothing.”

Lilly laughed at herself. They were engaged, and he called it “nothing.”

How pathetic.

Guess the real joke was on her.
