The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 297

He rattled off the address. “The guy’s passed out… Just send the reward money to my account, okay? No more questions.”

Lilly had no idea who he was talking to. She hurriedly wrapped herself in his jacket, trying to cover her bare skin.

She leaned against the taxi to steady herself. She wanted to say thank you, but before she could, a familiar voice echoed down the road. “Lilly! Lilly, where are you?”

Ella had found her.

By the time Lilly turned around, Jace was already gone. Not even a shadow left behind.

How did he disappear so fast?

She never even got to thank him.

David and Ella had arrived together. David had noticed tire marks on the road earlier, so they’d gotten out of their car and started searching.

As soon as she spotted Lilly, Ella ran to her, breathless and worried. “Lilly, are you okay? Why did you run off like that? You scared me half to death!”

David took one look at the unconscious driver on the ground and quickly pieced everything together. When he saw Lilly was safe, he let out a slow breath, relief flickering across his face.

Still, his expression stayed tight and serious. He couldn’t help but scold her. “Lilly, what were you thinking? You’re not a kid anymore. You need to start looking after yourself.”

All the fear, hurt, and confusion Lilly had bottled up finally spilled over. Her eyes stung with tears as she turned away and walked off, without saying a word.

Ella chased after her. “Lilly, where are you going?”

Lilly buried her face in Ella’s shoulder, her voice shaking as she sobbed. “Ella, I’ve had this birthmark since I was little. Mom, Dad… everyone around me, they all felt so bad for me… especially Dad. He’s a doctor. He can help everyone but not his own daughter… They try so hard to love me…

“And I love them so much… I don’t want them to be sad, so I try to smile all the time… even though sometimes when I look in the mirror, I feel sad, too…

“When Lucas told me I was pretty, I actually believed him… but the whole time, he was lying. He said I’m really ugly… Ella, did I do something wrong? Is it really so terrible not to be beautiful?”

Ella hugged her tighter, her voice soft and sure. “Lilly, you didn’t do anything wrong.”

David stood nearby, tall and silent. Lilly was his cousin, and of course, her pain hit him hard.

A few minutes later, two police cars pulled up. Officers in uniform got out and quickly took the unconscious driver away.

One of the older policemen glanced down the road where Jace had disappeared, then turned to Lilly. “Miss, the young man who saved you… did he already leave?”
