The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 304

People’s eyes landed on Sarah, sharp and judgmental, their stares filled with all sorts of unspoken accusations.

Sarah couldn’t believe Lilly had bounced back so fast, or that she’d managed to turn things around so brutally. Heat rushed to her cheeks as she shoved past everyone and broke into a run.

“Sarah!” Lucas called after her, weaving through the crowd to catch up. He reached out and grabbed her arm, holding on tight. “Sarah, are you mad at me?”

Sarah’s face twisted with hurt. She tried to shake him off, her voice barely above a whisper. “Lucas, we can’t keep doing this. Everyone’s already talking about us. It’s too much.”

Lucas pulled her in, holding her tight. “Who cares what they say? Let them talk. Sarah, tell me the truth. Do you like me or not?”

She kept up her sweet, helpless act, her cheeks going pink as she glanced away. “I do,” she murmured, shy and soft.

Lucas grinned. “Then let’s be together. Tomorrow, I’m going to tell everyone I love you.”

Sarah’s eyes sparkled. She knew she’d won. The Mathis family basically ruled Rockford Bay. Marrying Lucas would change her life forever.

“But Lucas, isn’t this too much for Lilly?” she asked, lowering her voice.

Just hearing Lilly’s name made Lucas frown. The nerve she’d had, dumping him in public like that. Fine. Tomorrow, he’d go public with Sarah and make sure Lilly saw everything. He wanted her to regret it, to cry and wish she’d never let him go.

Why was he still thinking about Lilly, though? He shouldn’t care. He didn’t want to care.

Lucas lifted Sarah’s face in his hands, focusing on her delicate features. What guy didn’t love a pretty face? This was what he wanted. Not Lilly with that hideous birthmark.

“Don’t mention her. It’ll just ruin everything.”

He leaned in and kissed her, not giving her a chance to say anything else.

Sarah pretended to resist, just enough to stoke the fire. Lucas was used to getting his way. He pressed her gently against the wall, his hand sliding up under her shirt.

He grazed her earlobe with his teeth, grinning. “I can’t even hold it with one hand,” he teased.

Jessa laughed. “Get ready, Mrs. Mathis. Tomorrow’s going to be one for the books.”

Ella felt a rush of pride seeing Lilly stand up for herself. That birthmark hadn’t made Lilly bitter or withdrawn. If anything, she was like a burst of sunshine, always so warm and full of energy.

As Ella filled her kettle, she overheard two girls chatting nearby.

“Did you hear? Lucas is going to tell Sarah he loves her in front of everyone tomorrow.”

“Poor Lilly. She really did nothing wrong, but Lucas clearly doesn’t care. He just spoils Sarah.”

“Honestly, Lucas and Sarah look perfect together.”
