The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 351

“I saw some herbs outside. I’m going to gather a few. You should rest for a while.”

Ella packed up the first-aid kit and walked out the door.

She’d already checked out the area when they arrived and noticed some wild herbs growing nearby. Maybe she could use them to help Justin forget everything.

Ella crouched down, fingers brushing through cool grass, picking the leaves she needed. Suddenly, footsteps crunched behind her. She glanced back.

Cedric was following her.

Ella blinked, surprised. “Why did you come out here? You lost a lot of blood. Shouldn’t you be lying down?”

Cedric stood above her, looking down at her with those sharp, dark eyes. Even dressed in plain village clothes, she was striking, her delicate face glowing in the dusk. He said, “I’ll stick with you. Who knows if there’s another Justin waiting around?”

Ella couldn’t help smiling for real this time. “David and I are divorced. Even if I mess around with someone else, it doesn’t count as cheating on him. You really don’t need to keep an eye on me.”

Cedric’s lips pressed together. “It’s not about David.”

Ella studied him for a moment. Cedric was stupidly handsome, even all banged up. As the Grimm family’s only son, he ruled Rockford Bay like some rich prince out of a story. Right now, he looked a little worse for wear, with cuts on his arms and legs and his face pale. It didn’t matter. He still looked like he belonged on the cover of a comic book.

If he wasn’t here because of David, then why?

She raised an eyebrow. “Wait, are you… worried about me?”

Cedric’s expression turned sour. He lifted his chin, acting all proud. “What are you talking about, Ella? You think too highly of yourself. Why would I worry about you?”

Ella almost laughed. “Relax, I was joking. I know you don’t care about me. Everyone knows you can’t stand me. You only care about your precious Jessa.”

Cedric didn’t answer.

Ella tucked the herbs into her pocket. “By the way, have you thought about why there was a bomb on the yacht? Or why it was set on a timer? Who was trying to kill me… no, kill us?”

He’d never been outsmarted by a girl before. Ella was the first.

Ella finished picking herbs. “Let’s go back.”

Cedric followed behind her, silent.

Suddenly, Ella’s vision blurred, and her body wobbled. She started to fall.

“Ella!”

Cedric caught her right away, his arm slipping around her slim waist. She slumped against his chest, her head resting on him.

The sudden closeness made Cedric freeze. He was only two years older than her. Their ages, their lives, suddenly felt closer than ever.
