Ella pretended not to hear David. “I don’t know him.”
The moment those words came out, David’s lips curled into a silent, mocking smile.
Ella might not know Atlas, but Fiona sure did. This was going to get interesting. Atlas wasn’t just some guy—he was David’s best friend.
Fiona gave a friendly smile. “Thanks, Atlas, but Ella needs to get home tonight.”
Atlas grabbed his car keys right away. “I’ll drive you both.”
He caught up to Ella and Fiona as they headed out.
As soon as the three of them left, the conversation at their table exploded.
“What was that? Is Atlas into Ella now?” someone blurted out.
Cedric shook his head. “But Ella and David are still married. Is David about to get played by his own wife and his best friend?”
Before Cedric could say anything else, David shot him a look that shut him up on the spot.
David grabbed his keys. “Have fun, everyone. I’m out.”
Sarah, looking lost, tugged at Jessa’s sleeve. “Jessa, why would Atlas fall for Ella? Wasn’t it enough she tricked David into marrying her? Does she want both of them now?”
Jessa’s face darkened. She hadn’t expected Atlas to be interested in Ella either.
She gave a short, cold laugh. “Relax. There’s no way guys like David or Atlas would fall for someone cheap like her. She’s way out of their league.”
Everyone in Rockford Bay knew David and Atlas were the most eligible bachelors around. What did Ella have that made her think she could compete?
Jessa hurried after David, calling out, “Wait up, David!”
But David’s car was still close behind. Atlas pressed down on the gas. “Let’s see if I can shake him off.”
Behind them, David was gripping the wheel, and Jessa sat beside him.
As Atlas sped up, David’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. He pressed harder on the accelerator.
The cars picked up speed, racing through the city lights.
Jessa felt her stomach drop. She clutched the seat, her voice trembling. “David, slow down! Please, not so fast!”
David’s face stayed calm and unreadable, but his jaw was tense, eyes locked on the road. He didn’t seem to hear her. The Rolls-Royce glided through the neon-lit streets like it owned the night.
Jessa’s heart pounded in her chest. She went pale, her voice rising in panic. “David, stop, please, stop… ah!”
