“Ah!”
Jessa’s scream made David hit the brakes hard. The Rolls-Royce came to a sudden stop.
Jessa was breathing fast, clutching her chest, still shaken. “David, why were you driving so fast?”
David’s expression was cold and distant. He glanced up and saw the Lamborghini he had nearly caught slip away, disappearing into the night.
He pressed his lips together. “Are you alright?”
Jessa nodded quickly. “I’m fine.”
She took a shaky breath. “I can’t believe Ella got Atlas interested. Did you see her on the dance floor tonight? The way she was moving... She grew up in the country and quit school at sixteen, and all she’s learned is how to get men’s attention. She’s really just throwing herself away, no self-respect at all.”
David’s eyes turned icy. In his mind, he could still see Ella swaying on the dance floor, every move inviting. Jessa wasn’t wrong—Ella definitely knew how to draw a man in.
Even Atlas, who never looked twice at anyone, was hooked.
“David, did you and Ella get divorced today?”
“Not yet.”
Jessa blinked in surprise. “Why not? I thought you two were settling it today.”
She had been sure it was over.
David let out a slow breath. “Grandma really likes Ella. For her health, we’re putting the divorce on hold.”
Grandma Chelsea was getting involved?
Jessa knew Grandma Chelsea wasn’t a fan of hers. The old lady had always adored Ella, and everyone knew she was Ella’s biggest supporter.
