The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 40

Even with the shadows of her childhood trailing behind her, Ella never lost the courage to love. Whether it was Rachel or David, she’d always thrown herself in, heart first, loving them openly and fiercely.

Loving someone didn’t mean you were weak. It didn’t make you less than anyone else. It was never a reason for anyone to treat you badly. And anyway, the truth was, she didn’t love David anymore. She was done with him.

David stared at her, his gaze sharp and cold. A mocking little smile tugged at his lips. “You really don’t love me anymore?”

“That’s rig—” Her answer was cut off when he leaned down and pressed his mouth hard against hers.

Her mind just… blanked. For a second, everything was white noise. She couldn’t believe he was actually kissing her.

It wasn’t like they’d never kissed before. Last time, in the bathroom, she’d been the one who couldn’t keep her hands off him. She’d kissed him first then.

But now, it was him.

She instantly tried to push him away, her hands pressed to his chest. “David, let me go!”

He didn’t budge. His body was strong and unmovable, pinning her gently but firmly to the wall. His lips pressed against hers, demanding, almost hungry.

When she opened her mouth to protest, he didn’t waste a second. His tongue slipped in, taking control, making her feel like she was losing herself.

His scent was everywhere—clean, crisp, masculine. She’d never been close like this with anyone else.

Her body was way too sensitive. The way he kissed her made her blush burn all the way down her neck. She felt like she might just melt right there in his arms.

The hands she’d used to push him away curled into the fabric of his shirt, gripping it tight. Her legs threatened to give out, and she leaned into him for support.

He noticed. He slipped an arm around her waist, holding her steady, keeping her close.

Ella felt humiliated. He’d actually managed to shame her. She hated him for it. But honestly, she hated herself more.

Because her body still wanted him.

Maybe, deep down, her heart wasn’t over him yet. And that just gave him more ammo to throw in her face.

Still, Ella wasn’t the type to back down. If someone hit her, she’d hit right back, just as hard.

She took a breath, pulled herself together, and brought her face right up to his. “Yeah, that’s right. Since you can’t satisfy me, maybe I’ll just find someone who can. You’re busy with Jessa, so why shouldn’t I look elsewhere? What are you so proud of, David? If Atlas kissed me, I’d react exactly the same.”

She made sure to linger on the name “Atlas,” letting it hang in the air.

It worked. David’s eyes narrowed, and a cold smile flickered on his lips. “Too bad I didn’t get that on camera. I could’ve sent it to Atlas, let him see what he’s getting himself into.”
