This guy was unbelievable.
Fuming, Ella stretched up on her toes and sank her teeth into the corner of David’s lip.
He let out a sharp hiss. The taste of blood spread in his mouth. She’d actually broken the skin.
David grabbed her by the cheeks, smooshing her face into a surprised little O. His eyes were cold and dangerous. “What are you, a puppy? Is biting people your thing now?”
Ella glared right back, refusing to back down. “You should worry about how you’re going to explain that cut to Jessa tomorrow. Will Jessa like getting my hand-me-downs?”
David was at a loss for words.
Hand-me-downs? Who was she calling secondhand?
“Fine. We can each do whatever we want. But Atlas is off limits,” he snapped.
“Why?”
Because Atlas was his friend. Just the idea made David feel weird.
He looked her over from head to toe. “You really think Atlas would want you? Don’t flatter yourself. All you can do is shake it on the dance floor. You’re a country girl who dropped out of school at sixteen. You have no degree, no job. Atlas would never go for someone like you. At best, he’d just find you a novelty. He’d get bored in no time.”
Ella stared at him, speechless.
So that’s what he really thought of her.
Maybe all men were like this. If they didn't want you, they still didn’t want anyone else to have you.
Instead of getting angry, Ella just laughed. “Did I look good dancing tonight?”
David froze. “What?”
Ella shoved him away, hard. “From now on I’ll dance for him every single day. New moves every night. I’ll make sure he never gets bored.”
