Maureen’s voice trembled as she pleaded, “Mr. Lynch, please, can you think of any way to help us?”
Mr. Lynch shook his head. “I’m sorry. There’s nothing I can do for you. You’re asking the wrong person. You should find someone else.”
Maureen’s hope flickered. “Who?”
He gave them a single name. “Ella.”
Everyone went silent.
Mr. Lynch’s words seemed to hang in the air, impossible to believe. The Irvines stared at him, confused and a little offended. “Why Ella? What could she possibly do for us?” someone asked.
Another voice chimed in, sharp with disbelief. “Seriously? Is she going to catch the fake Doctor E for us? Bring the Irvine family back from the dead? Save us all?”
Jessa and Maureen exchanged looks, their faces twisted in skepticism. Neither could imagine Ella being their savior.
But Mr. Lynch just repeated himself, firm and calm. “She can.”
The room buzzed with shock. No one knew what to say.
Mr. Lynch gave a small shrug. “That’s all I’ll say. I’ve already shown you the only way forward. The rest is up to you.” With that, he turned and walked away, disappearing inside.
Grandma Jill was the first to break the silence. “Why on earth would Mr. Lynch tell us to find Ella?”
Rachel rolled her eyes. “Ella’s just a housewife. I don’t buy it for a second.”
The others nodded and grumbled in agreement.
“I don’t get it either. But if Mr. Lynch won’t help, I guess we have no choice but to try Wyatt,” With no other options left, the Irvines gathered themselves and made their way to Wyatt’s place.
…
When they arrived, the maid met them at the gate, blocking their way. “I’m sorry. You’re not allowed inside.”
