Lilly walked beside Jace in the corridor, glancing up at him. “Jace, who was that lady just now? Why did she take you to her hotel room?”

Jace pulled his arm away from her grip. “I don’t owe you any explanations.”

Lilly reached up to touch his forehead, concern in her eyes. “Jace, you’re really warm. Do you have a fever?”

Her hand was soft and gentle, her sweet scent filling the small space between them. For a second, Jace felt a wave of heat rush through him, his eyes stinging with emotion. He pulled her hand away, his voice sharp. “Don’t touch me!”

She looked up at him, worry in her voice. “Jace, what’s going on? You’re burning up. Are you sick? Shouldn’t we go to the hospital?”
