The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 426

Jace came to a halt.

Lilly looked up at him, her eyes wide and bright. “So, Jace, am I your girlfriend now?”

Jace went rigid.

She kept going, her voice soft but insistent. “I mean, only people who are dating can do stuff like that. So does this mean I'm your girlfriend and you're my boyfriend?”

It was like someone dumped a bucket of ice water over his head. All the heat and tension he’d felt just fizzled out. He let go of her slowly, trying to straighten up.

But Lilly wouldn’t let him. She wrapped her arms tighter around his neck, pulling him back. She pouted, her lips sticking out. “What’s that supposed to mean? If you don’t want to date me, then why did you kiss me? Are you just using me or something?”

Jace swallowed, doing his best to ignore the sweet warmth of her pressed up against him. “I’m sorry.”

That was all he could manage.

Lilly’s face screwed up in frustration. So that was it, he really didn’t want to be with her.

“You don’t like me?” she pressed.

Jace had no answer.

She pushed her face even closer, her eyes shining and a little bit stubborn. “Why don’t you like me? Am I not pretty enough? Not sweet enough or good enough? Just tell me. Maybe I can fix it.”

Jace tried to gently move her hands away from his neck. But she just held on tighter. “Jace, I really like you.”

He said nothing.

She was so bold, so alive, so determined to be with him.

The desire he thought he’d buried started to flicker back to life. Just then, light spilled into the elevator as the doors were forced open.

The elevator had stalled, but now the repair guys had arrived.

“You can come out now,” one of them called out with a friendly smile.

Lilly let go of Jace in a flash, stepping back.
