Jessa froze, her hand snapping out to grab his arm. "David, where are you going?"
He didn't even look back. "I'm going back in. Ella's still inside."
She stared at him, barely believing it. "You're really going back to save Ella?"
David pulled his arm free. "There's no way I'd leave her there alone."
He turned around and walked off without another word.
Desperate, Jessa tried to stop him. "David, my heart hurts… I think I'm going to faint. I'm really going to faint!"
It didn't matter how much she begged. David just kept going, heading straight back into the warehouse.
Inside, he found Scar and his men rolling around on the floor, groaning in pain. Ella was gone.
David stormed over to Scar and yanked him up by the collar. "Where's Ella?"
Scar was clutching his face, howling. "She ran away! That little bitch untied herself somehow. When we got close, she threw something at us. My eyes… they're burning… I can't see anything!"
Everyone was writhing on the ground, totally out of commission. Whatever Ella had done, it worked.
David ran to the window. It was wide open. She must have escaped through there.
He pulled out his phone and barked into it, "Clean this up. And find Ella."
…
David took Jessa straight to the hospital. Grandma Jill, Rachel, and Maureen rushed over the second they heard. Rachel grabbed Jessa's hand, worry all over her face. "Jessa, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Mom."
"What about Ella?"
Jessa bit her lip, her eyes sharp with resentment. "Ella ran away. She snuck out somehow."
