Jessa and Maureen sat frozen, shock written all over their faces. They had never known about the ugly truth from the past, and now, learning that Jon was murdered by their own family, they both turned ghostly pale.
They didn’t feel sorry for Jon. Honestly, they never cared about him at all. What scared them now was the sense of danger closing in.
Maureen’s voice shook. “You killed Jon. What are we supposed to do? Ella’s back for revenge. She wants us to hand over the murderer. That’s it for the Irvine family—we’re done for.”
Jessa sank onto the sofa, her whole body trembling. “How did it come to this? Ella won’t let us go, and now everyone knows you’re all involved. Is she going to wipe out the entire Irvine family?”
Maureen shook her head, her hands twisting in her lap. “Ella isn’t that useless housewife from the countryside anymore. She’s Doctor E now. She’s powerful.”
Jessa’s panic grew. “So what now? What about my heart condition? If Ella refuses to treat me, am I just supposed to wait around to die?”
For Jessa and Maureen, their own interests were always top priority. They never really cared about anyone else.
The news that Ella was actually Doctor E, on top of being forced to kneel in public, had left Maureen in a daze. Her face was still drained of color.
Jessa felt even worse. Her heart thudded painfully in her chest, and all hope seemed to disappear with Ella’s departure.
The entire Irvine family sat in heavy silence. No one had imagined Ella could become someone so important.
How did Ella end up being Doctor E?
Grandma Jill stared at Jessa. “Jessa, you need to talk to Mr. Harmon. Ask him for help. He’s the only one who can fix this.”
