Jessa nodded. "Okay, Dad. You have to help me."
"I know, Jessa. Go get some rest. No matter how bad things get, I’ll handle it."
"Alright." Jessa headed back to her room.
Peter and Rachel went to their own bedroom. Rachel showered first and was already lying in bed when Peter came in after his shower. Rachel turned to him. "Peter, you have to help Jessa."
Peter asked quietly, "How am I supposed to help?"
Rachel leaned closer. "Contact that big shot in the Capital. If you can get through to him, everything will be sorted. Ella might think she’s powerful, but to someone like him, she’s nothing, just a bug he could squash."
Peter hesitated. "But Jessa’s birth mother never wanted her identity revealed. She didn’t want Jessa to go back to the Capital."
Rachel grew anxious, her voice rising. "Just look at what’s happening now. Jessa’s in real trouble. We can’t fix this without help from the Capital. And honestly, what’s wrong with going back? Jessa was born for this."
Peter went quiet, lost in thought. He still remembered what Jessa’s mother said before she died, but Ella had driven the Irvine family into a corner. There was no way out.
Ella was pushing too hard, too fast.
Peter glared at Rachel, his face dark. "Just look at the mess you created. Why is Ella so unstoppable? She could ruin the whole family without breaking a sweat."
A hint of guilt flashed in Rachel’s eyes. She stayed silent, afraid to slip up.
Rachel tried to keep her voice steady. "Peter, do you really hate Ella that much?"
"Of course I do," Peter snapped. "Anyone who stands against Jessa is my enemy."
Rachel smiled, lips curling with satisfaction. This was exactly what she wanted to hear.
If Peter ever discovered that Ella was actually the one he was destined to protect, she wondered how he’d handle it. Maybe he’d just break apart.
