David nodded. He was done hesitating. He had to save Jessa, whatever it took.
He turned to Ella. “Ella, just treat Jessa’s heart condition. I don’t want to force you.”
Ella’s heart dropped. David was actually siding with Jessa and those people. She let out a cold laugh. “Mr. Harmon, before you try to push me, maybe ask yourself if you’re even capable of it.”
Grandma Jill snorted. “Ella, you really have a mouth on you. Sure, you’re Doctor E, but you’re nothing compared to Mr. Harmon. With a word, he could ruin you completely.”
Rachel spoke up, her tone soft but her meaning sharp. “Ella, we’re giving you a way out. Take it. Going head to head with us won’t do you any good. I’m saying this for your own sake.”
Jessa chimed in, her voice icy. “Ella, even if you don’t care about yourself, think about Wyatt. Are you really going to let him risk his life for you?”
Ella met Jessa’s eyes, her voice steady. “Wyatt is my responsibility. I’ll figure it out. You all should be worrying about yourselves. I won’t let go of my father’s death. Every single person involved is going to pay for it.”
Grandma Jill tried to cut her off, but Ella didn’t give anyone a chance. She turned and walked away.
David watched her retreating figure for a moment, then hurried after her. When he caught up, he grabbed her arm. “Ella, wait. We need to talk.”
She stopped and yanked her arm out of his hand, her expression cold. “Mr. Harmon, I don’t think there’s anything left for us to say.”
David pressed his lips together, frustration simmering in his eyes. “Ella, I can’t just ignore Jessa. Please don’t put me in this position.”
