Atlas didn’t just accept Ella, he actually confessed his feelings for her right in front of David.
Jessa and Maureen were both stunned. “Atlas!”
Was he out of his mind? Was he really going after his best friend’s ex?
David glanced down at their joined hands. The air seemed to freeze around him. He looked at Atlas, his words crisp and cold. “Sure. Do whatever you want with her.”
Then David turned and walked away.
Jessa rushed after him.
Ella watched David disappear into the distance. He was so cold. He’d just handed her over to Atlas, acting like it didn’t matter at all.
Atlas spoke softly. “Ella, I’ve known David for years. He and Jessa are never breaking up.”
Ella quickly pulled her hand away. “I know.”
Atlas suddenly stepped in close, backing her up against the wall. He smiled, a little wicked, a little charming. “So, how about being my girlfriend? However David spoils Jessa, I’ll spoil you the same way.”
The last thing Ella wanted was to get involved with Atlas. She felt her lashes tremble. “Atlas, thanks, but I’m not the right person. I’m just a girl from the countryside, no degree, no job. I’m really not good enough for you…”
She pushed past him and hurried off. “Bye, Atlas.”
Watching her run off, Atlas couldn’t help laughing. This girl was something else.
He liked her.
…
Outside the bar, a Rolls-Royce was waiting at the curb. Aiden stood ready, opening the back door for David.
Jessa caught up, grabbing David from behind in a hug. “David, what’s going on? Why are you acting like this?”
She was panicking. She had no idea what she’d done wrong.
David gently took her hands off him, his face expressionless. “I need to get back to the office. You should go home.”
He slid into the back seat.
Aiden got behind the wheel and drove off.
