Peter was still outside, trying to keep up appearances as he saw Mr. Scott and Mr. Lewis off. He forced a smile, even though the bruises on his face were obvious. “Mr. Scott, Mr. Lewis, about our partnership...”

Mr. Scott glanced at his battered face and laughed. “Mr. Irvine, maybe you should see a doctor before we talk business.”

The CEOs slid into their luxury cars and drove away.

Peter walked back into the living room, looking furious. He marched right up to Rachel. “Rachel, do you see what you’ve done? You’ve made a complete fool out of me!”

No one was more crushed than Rachel herself. She just couldn’t figure out how everything had gone so wrong. She was sure she’d planned it all perfectly.

She grabbed Peter’s sleeve, desperate. “Honey, listen, let me explain...”

Peter pulled away, grabbed his suit jacket, and headed for the door. “I don’t want to see you ever again.”

He left without looking back.

Rachel stood there, her face and neck covered in scratches, her skin pale. She’d thought she could use this chance to win Peter’s love again, but instead, she’d only pushed him further away.

She turned to Jessa, reaching out like she was drowning. “Jessa, please, let me explain...”

Jessa pushed her away, cold and annoyed. “Mom, what is wrong with you lately? You can’t get anything right!”

Rachel’s eyes burned with resentment. Before Ella came back, life was smooth. Since her return, nothing had gone right.
