Jessa was here.

David went rigid. In an instant, the haze clouding his mind cleared. He lowered his eyes, exhaustion settling over him.

What the hell was he doing?

He had just been pinning Ella against the wall, losing control.

Ella felt the weight lift from her body. David stepped back.

"Stay here. Don't go out."

He didn't wait for a reply. He was already gone, heading straight for Jessa.

A minute ago, he was burning with desire, but just hearing Jessa's name was enough for him to pull away and leave Ella behind, like it was nothing.

The heat on Ella’s cheeks slowly faded. She gave herself a crooked, bitter smile. How had she, the wife, ended up feeling like the other woman? It felt like she and David were sneaking around, and Jessa was the real partner.

What was he going to do with Jessa? Probably finish what they hadn't finished earlier.

Ella crouched down, picking up the pieces of her shattered phone from the carpet. She tried to put them back together, her fingers trembling.

Before long, the phone rang again.

Rachel.

Ella answered. Rachel’s voice was smug, almost gleeful. "Ella, Jessa went to see Mr. Harmon, right?"

Ella said nothing, her eyes cold.

Rachel sounded even more pleased. "I know you were with Mr. Harmon. But as soon as Jessa showed up, he dropped you, didn’t he? Oh, and last time he brought Jessa to Briarwood Estate, she slept in his bed. The master bedroom bed."

Ella hung up without a word. She looked over at the big bed in the room. His bed. The one Jessa had slept in just days ago.
