David lounged on the sofa, eyes following every move she made, openly admiring her.

She flashed a teasing smile. “You look like you could use a little surprise to loosen up. Lucky for you, I brought myself tonight. Isn’t that the best gift you could ask for? Are you surprised, David?”

Jessa was all in. She was the surprise.

David met her gaze, his face hard to read.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, voice dropping to a sultry whisper. “Do you want me, David? If you do, you’ll need to sign this first.”

She slipped a piece of paper into his hand.

He didn’t have to look twice. It was a divorce agreement.

“Sign it, David. Divorce Ella right now. Otherwise, you’re not getting me.”

Jessa felt sure she had him. Who could turn down someone like her when she was this close?

David looked at her, his voice icy and calm. “Ella and I aren’t divorced. Is your family really in such a hurry?”

Jessa blinked, thrown off. “What?”

He kept going. “Your plan didn’t work tonight. You must be so disappointed you couldn’t catch Ella and Robert together in front of everyone at Rockford Bay.”

Jessa’s eyes widened. His cold, sharp gaze cut right through her.

David gently pried her hands from his neck. “Ella is still my wife. I don’t want to see you pull something like this again.”

He set her aside and stood up.
