“More or less,” Mr. Reed said dismissively. “Caught a glimpse of her, anyway.”
“What was she wearing? What does she look like?” Eulalia blurted out, earning a sharp glare from Flynn.
He quickly added, “Was she in a chic white dress, long hair, and did she look…?”
“No, she was wearing a green dress,” Mr. Reed cut him off, his patience gone. “Look, I have to go.”
Then the line went dead.
Eulalia let out a triumphant hiss of air, wincing as the movement pulled at the cut on her lip.
She gently touched the wound. “See? I told you. There’s no way Ramona is the Covington heiress. The nerve of her, telling a lie that bold!”
“You’re right,” Flynn said, shaking his head as relief washed over him. “I can’t believe she’d dare to impersonate the Covington heiress.”
Meanwhile, inside the venue, beneath a stylish green overcoat, Ramona was wearing a chic white dress. The air conditioning was a bit too cold for her, so she’d asked her assistant to bring her coat.
…
The summit was about to begin when Brianna and Brantley finally rushed to the check-in table, delayed by heavy traffic.
“Brianna!”
Brianna was hurrying inside when a familiar voice called her name. She turned, her eyes widening in shock.
It was Winnie and Liliane.
“What is it?” Brantley asked, noticing her pause.
“Some old acquaintances from Havencrest City. You go on ahead, Mr. Lawson. I’ll be right there.”
Seeing the troubled look on her face, Brantley nodded without asking questions and went inside with his assistant.
Once he was gone, Brianna’s expression hardened.
The familiar form of address soothed Brianna slightly. She glanced over the Holt family, a cold smirk touching her lips. She hadn’t planned on revealing her new power to them so soon, but when you’re shining this brightly, it’s hard to stay hidden.
“This has nothing to do with Jotham. I’m representing myself. I’m about to open my own company here in Havencrest City.”
A smugness dripped from Brianna’s voice, making Winnie laugh out loud in disbelief. “You? Are you dreaming? Where would Jotham get the money to start a company for you?”
“I thought Ramona was the biggest liar I knew, but it looks like you’re giving her a run for her money,” Eulalia sneered.
Brianna was immune to their insults. She simply held up her invitation. The name Gallop Inc. was well-known in the country.
Flynn’s jaw dropped. “You’re working for Gallop Inc. now?”
“Gallop Inc. is opening a branch in Havencrest City,” Brianna said coolly, her gaze slowly moving to Liliane. “And I am the one in charge of the entire project.”
So Liliane thought she could use the trust fund to force their divorce? Gallop Inc. was a powerful backer. If Jotham wanted to save the Holt family, wouldn't he want an ally like that on his side?
Winnie snatched the invitation from Brianna’s hand and stared at it, then shot a nervous glance at Liliane, whose face had gone pale.
