It seemed Brianna’s luck had finally turned. She had managed to secure backing from a major Kyro City corporation. If what she said was true, the Holt family could leverage Gallop Inc.’s influence to recover quickly.
Eulalia didn’t know what Gallop Inc. was, but seeing that Brianna wasn’t lying, she kept her mouth shut for once.
“Well, Brianna, since you can get in, hurry up and take us with you,” Winnie said. “Flynn’s boss is still in there.”
Brianna pursed her lips, saying nothing. After a moment, she glanced at her watch. “I have to go. My associate is waiting for me inside. Your presence wasn’t part of the plan, so I can’t bring you in.”
She turned to leave.
Flynn panicked, but he could see what was happening: Brianna was making Liliane and Winnie sweat.
“Brianna, are you turning your back on us?” Eulalia cried out.
“Turning my back?” Brianna scoffed, looking back at Liliane. “Weren’t you the ones who turned your backs on me?”
She paused. “If you want my help, you need to learn how to ask for it.”
Winnie’s eyes flickered toward Liliane.
She knew Brianna had left with Milo. She’d been busy caring for Griffin and hadn’t paid much attention, but she’d heard from the staff that Jotham had asked for a divorce. She’d been thrilled. Having Brianna as a daughter-in-law would surely shorten her life by thirty years.
But now, it seemed the divorce wasn’t Jotham’s idea, but Liliane’s.
After everything with Ramona, Winnie didn’t dare confront Brianna directly. A woman scorned could be vicious, and the last thing the Holt family needed was another Ramona.
Liliane was clearly thinking the same thing. Her face cycled through shades of green and grey, her wrinkled skin trembling. Finally, she managed a sarcastic smile. “Brianna, please, don’t hold a grudge against an old woman like me. You know the situation our family is in. We desperately need new investment.”
“Of course I know,” Brianna replied, her own smile tight. “But why would I willingly pave the way for my ex-husband’s family?”
Eulalia opened her mouth to argue, but Flynn pinched her arm, silencing her.
Brianna had lost her patience. As she turned to leave for good, Liliane finally broke. “If you help the Holt family, I will no longer speak of the divorce.”
“And how can I be sure of that?” Brianna asked, her eyes fixed on the old woman.
“Whatever you want. I’ll give you whatever guarantee you ask for,” Liliane said, her voice trembling with barely suppressed rage. “On one condition: you have to help the Holt family!”
A triumphant glint appeared in Brianna’s eyes. She didn’t press them further. These people were opportunists; as long as she held the power, she could control them.
But when she tried to lead them inside, they were stopped at the door.
Fearing a medical emergency, Winnie quickly helped her away.
Brianna had no choice but to back down. She tried to tell the Holts to go home while she went inside, but the guards blocked her as well.
“I am an invited guest!”
“Everyone in there is an invited guest. You violated the venue’s code of conduct. If I let you in, how would I explain it?”
Her arguments were useless. She, too, was escorted out.
Liliane, unable to bear the shame, left in a huff with Winnie. When Eulalia saw Brianna being thrown out as well, she almost laughed out loud.
“So, Brianna, are you all talk? Weren’t you so confident you could get us in? Don’t tell me you’re even less useful than Ramona.”
With that kind of pull, how dare she have acted so high and mighty just moments ago?
“Get lost,” Brianna snapped, walking away to call Brantley.
Flynn wanted to see what would happen next, but Eulalia was already dragging him toward the parking garage.
