The Heir And The Servent Started From A Bet novel Chapter 138

Chapter 138

*Still trying to wrap my head around you dating.Alex Blackwell,” Ethan said softly, as if speaking too loud might crack what little peace they had left. He gave a short, humorless laugh. “I mean… Alex Blackwell. The Blackwell heir. The untouchable Alex. I don’t think there’s anyone that scared me more in Willowcrest than Alex. Not even his father.”

He paused for a second, shaking his head like the thought still amazed him. “Alex Blackwell was even more ruthless than his father. Cold. Distant. Dangerous.”

Mia didn’t say anything. She didn’t have to. That version of Alex lived in her memory too.

She remembered watching him from a distance, how people would tense up when he walked into a room. He didn’t speak unless he had to. He didn’t smile. He was like a statue in a suit, untouchable, unreadable, and oddly magnetic.

Alex that rarely smiles, was either pressing his phone or staring at his surroundings boredly whenever he was in Casa with his friends.

That mysteriousness messed with her heart everyday for years.

It was crazy to think about how she used to daydream about him, used to imagine what it would be like to be someone he could look at. Really look at.

She had built fantasies in her mind, entire love stories that started with her being someone important enough to matter in

his world.

And then somehow, in some twisted way, that fantasy came true.

She got to know the real him. The one who held her hand and kissed it. The one who kissed her forehead and smiled.

The one who held her all night, whispering how he loved her like he was trying to make her believe it deep in her soul.

That was the Alex she really fell for. Not the heir. Not the cold-hearted Blackwell she had crushed on for years.

Ethan let out another breath beside her. “When I heard on the street that my baby sister was with Alex Blackwell… I was shocked. And scared for you.”

Mia turned her head a little, watching the waves crash softly against the side of the ship.

“Alex hated us,” Ethan went on. “He haunted me for years after what happened with his brother. Hell, I used to wake up looking over my shoulder, thinking he was going to finally finish what he started.” He gave a small chuckle, dry and without humor. “I was really scared for you, Mia. I thought he didn’t know you were a Turner. And if he found out… I thought it would be bloody. So yeah, I was terrified for you.”

Mia kept her gaze on the water, her voice soft but steady when she answered, “He knew I was a Turner from the beginning.”

Ethan snapped his head to the side, eyes wide. “Yeah…” he said after a moment. “Shocked me to my bones.”

They sat there, silence falling over them again.

The sound of the waves and the distant hum of the ship’s engine were the only things reminding them of their present.

Mia tried not to cry again, but the tears were always there, right beneath the surface. Every time she thought of Alex, her heart cracked a little more.

She sniffed quietly and blinked hard. She wanted to scream that it was real. Every second. Every touch. Every whispered promise. It was all real.

But he wasn’t here. And she had no way to reach him.

They had ripped her out of Willowcrest like a weed in the night, tossed her on a ship like she was nothing, and she didn’t even get to say goodbye.

“I hope we can start over wherever we will settle down.” Ethan

says

Mia turned to glance at him, studying his face. He looked tired, older somehow. Maybe the weight of everything was finally catching up to him.

“Are you sure you’re ready to start over?” she asked, her tone soft but steady. “Starting over means stopping drugs, Ethan.”

He let out a slow breath. “I know.”

His answer surprised her.

He didn’t look at her when he continued. “I can’t repeat history, Mia. That’s for sure. Me selling drugs in Willowcrest cost us a lot. I can’t continue that when we’re trying to start over.”

Mia nodded slowly, not sure if she believed him, but wishing she could. She remembered how many times they had tried to talk him off that path. How many times he’d made promises and then gone right back into it like nothing changed.

But something has changed now.

Maybe being dragged out of their home like criminals, maybe being thrown onto a ship in the middle of the night, maybe watching their entire life disappear behind them, maybe that would be enough. Maybe now, Ethan would finally mean it.

“What about school, though?” Ethan asked after a moment.

Mia sighed and looked out at the ocean again. “The results are probably out on the website.”

She had been thinking about it a lot, she couldn’t exactly say it out loud considering their situation.

Besides she couldn’t check now, not without a phone or Wi-Fi or even the strength to really care at the moment.

Maybe she had lost that excitement somewhere in the chaos. Still, somewhere deep inside her, a small spark of hope remained.

An admission will be the best way to really start over.

“I hope you get in,” Ethan said genuinely.
