The Heir And The Servent Started From A Bet novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38

“You don’t fucking look at him. Understand?” Zoe hissed, pointing a sharp finger at Mia.

Mia’s hand trembled as it cradled her burning check. Tears streaked silently down her face, her body frozen in place.

“Get lost, you fucking whore!” Zoe barked, her voice slicing through the stunned silence of the lounge.

Mia’s legs moved on their own. She shot to her feet, head down, and bolted toward the back of the restaurant, ignoring the stares and whispers that followed her.

The moment she reached the back door exit, she collapsed onto the cold ground. Her chest heaved as sobs tore through her, each one making her feel like she was breaking apart, piece by piece.

Her heart, already shattered, now felt like it was being crushed underfoot. The humiliation, the pain, the way Alex hadn’t even lifted his head to stop it-everything hurt.

Emily appeared minutes later, breathless and wide-eyed. “Mia!” she called, rushing over and dropping to her knees beside

her.

Mia couldn’t even look up. She buried her face in her hands, tears dripping through her fingers.

Emily pulled her into a hug, her arms wrapping tightly around her shaking frame. “It’s okay. You’re okay,” she murmured. “Come on, let’s get you inside.”

Mia sniffled, her body limp as Emily helped her up and guided her into the staff room.

“You’re not going back out there,” Emily said firmly as she settled Mia onto the worn couch in the corner. “I’ll cover the rest of your tables, okay? You just stay here.”

Mia hiccuped, trying to speak, but the words wouldn’t come. All she could manage was a whisper, “Thank you.”

Emily gave her a small, reassuring smile. “It’s going to be okay, Mia. Just breathe. I’ll be back to check on you later.”

As Emily left the room, Mia curled up on the couch, clutching her knees to her chest. Her tears fell silently now, her mind replaying Zoe’s words and the slap over and over again.

Meanwhile, back at the table, Alex finally looked up from his phone, his expression bored.

“What was the point of all that?” he asked, his tone flat.

Zoe blinked at him, her lips twisting in disbelief. “What?”

“That,” Alex said, gesturing lazily toward the direction Mia had fled. “What was the point of humiliating her like that?”

“I needed to teach her a lesson,” Zoe said sharply, crossing her arms.

“A lesson for what?” Alex raised an eyebrow. “We’re the ones who played her.”

Zoe tilted her head, staring at him as if he’d just spoken another language. “Since when do you care?”

“I don’t,” Alex replied, his tone as indifferent as ever. “I just think it was totally unnecessary.”

“Well, I think it was completely necessary,” Zoe snapped, leaning back in her chair.

Alex hummed, uninterested in arguing further. He picked up his phone again, tuning Zoe out as he scrolled through his

messages.

His mother had sent him a long text about how she was planning to talk to his father about the whole marriage thing for Julian.

Alex didn’t fully agree with it. For him that’s not what Julian needed right now. Maybe he was wrong, and this would actually be what Julian needed.

“I feel like I’m the only one celebrating this whole thing being over,” Zoe muttered, her frown deepening.

Alex glanced at her briefly. “What do you want me to do?”

“Act like you’re happy to be here with me!” she snapped, throwing her hands up.

Alex sighed heavily and stood up.

Zoe blinked, her confusion turning to annoyance. “What are you doing?”

“Going to the pit,” Alex said, grabbing his jacket from the back of his chair.
