Chapter 47
The moment the cold night air touched Mia, she felt her entire body relax.
The club had been suffocating-too loud, too crowded, too much. Out here, away from the loud music and the heat of too many bodies pressed together, she could finally breathe.
She took in a deep breath, letting the cold night air fill her lungs before exhaling slowly.
She wasn’t sure how long she stood there, staring into the distance, trying to push away the thoughts in her head.
The night had been exhausting, and all she wanted now was to go home, crawl into bed, and forget everything.
But just as she let her head rest against the cool surface of a parked car, she saw movement from the corner of her eye.
Her heart sank.
Phil was walking toward her.
God, why did this guy follow her?
Mia stiffened, her shoulders tensing as he approached, holding a bottle of water in one hand like he had every right to be
here.
A creeping unease crawled up her spine.
She just didn’t like the vibe this guy has been sending her…
“Are you okay?” he asked, stopping in front of her.
His voice was smooth, almost casual, but Mia wasn’t buying it.
She forced a nod, keeping her expression neutral. “Yeah,” she whispered. Then, a little firmer, “You didn’t have to come out here with me.”
Phil smiled.
“Well, you’re my date,” he said simply. “I wasn’t going to let you be outside alone.”
Mia’s entire body went still.
She blinked, sure she had misheard him.
Date?
Her chest tightened, a sick feeling filling up her stomach.
“What do you mean date?” she asked slowly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Phil shrugged like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “You know, my hook up for the night.”
Mia’s breath caught in her throat.
Her mind went blank for a second, struggling to process what she had just heard.

It took a moment for the words to sink in, but when they did, nausea curled in her gut.
He’s joking.
He has to be joking.
But the look on his face told her otherwise.
The realization sent a wave of disgust through her.
Mia took a step back, putting distance between them.
“Look, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said sharply. “I’m not your date, and I’m certainly not your hook up or whatever.”
Phil chuckled, shaking his head.
“Playing hard to get, Turner?”
Again with that name…
Her stomach twisted at the way he said her name-like he can just do whatever he wants with her, like he had some sort of claim over her.
She felt a chill creep up her spine.
“What?” she let out, completely stunned and confused.
Phil smirked. “I’ll pay well.”
Mia froze.
The world tilted for a moment, her breath catching in her throat.
She stared at him, her heart pounding so loudly she could hear it in her ears.
There was no way this was happening to her right now.
She needed to go.
Now.
Without another word, she turned, ready to walk away-
But before she could take more than a few steps, Phil grabbed her arm and yanked her back.
Her back slammed into the car, a sharp gasp escaping her lips.
Her pulse skyrocketed.
“Let go of me!” she hissed, trying to shove him off.
Phil’s grip tightened.
“Come on,” he murmured, leaning in. “I won’t be hard.”

Mia’s chest rose and fell rapidly, panic clawing at her throat.
“I said get off me!” She screams.
Phil covers her mouth immediately.
“Stop playing hard to get”
“Something is going on, Alex, and I want to know,” Zoe said, her voice sharp with frustration.
Alex barely heard her.
His mind was elsewhere-his eyes flickered toward the entrance where Mia had just disappeared, and something inside him was just pushing him to go after her so badly.
His fingers tightened around the glass in his hand before he let out a slow, controlled breath, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
He was losing it.
Because the only thing occupying his thoughts right now was her.
Mia.
Not Zoe.
Not the woman he had spent years with. Not the girl who had been by his side, the one who was supposed to be his future.
No-his every instinct, every fiber of his being, was screaming at him to go after Turner.
To find her.
To make sure she was okay.
But that shouldn’t be his worry.
Mia Turner shouldn’t be his problem.
She shouldn’t even be his problem even though she was drowning in front of him.
She wasn’t his.
Zoe was.
Zoe is your concern.
Not Turner.
He clenched his jaw, forcing himself to focus on the woman standing in front of him.
Zoe.
The woman he had spent years with. The woman he had loved.

Chapter 47
They had history, memories, and a life built together. They were supposed to be solid.
So why the hell was he feeling like this?
Why did it feel like he was losing control over his own emotions?
Alex swallowed hard, fighting against the pull inside him.
He really, really tried.
But in the end…
He lost.
A heavy sigh left his lips.
Because no matter how much he fought it, no matter how much he tried to convince himself otherwise-
He had no control over his emotions anymore.
His body moved before he could stop himself.
