THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA (IRIS and DRACO) novel Chapter 25

IRIS.

A shriek escaped past my lips when I saw Alpha Draco rushing toward us. The next thing I knew, his knuckles landed on the Delta’s jaw. Liam was hurled backward while the Alpha grabbed me toward him.

My body spun around, and my face landed on his bloodied torso. His arm wrapped around me as he cradled me on his chest while he pointed a finger at him. “One more fucking time you lay your hands on her…”

“Alpha…” I cut him off, my hands caressing his chest. “You misunderstood. I can explain. He’s not hurting me.”

“I know what I saw.” He then looked at everyone standing around us, mostly the helpers in this house and the Delta.

“If I see any of you manhandling Iris,” he began, and I closed my eyes, not knowing how to defend them from his anger. “I will not hesitate to kick all of you out and make your lives a living hell!”

Oh, Goddess! He was overreacting.

“Now get the fuck out of my sight!” He roared, and the helpers scampered out while Delta Liam slowly rose from the ground, wiping his bloodied mouth with his arm, but I saw him glance at me for a second before turning his back on us.

“Are you hurt?” The Alpha asked as he checked the arm that Liam grabbed. “I will fucking kill him.”

“Can I explain?”

“I know what I saw.” He repeated as his hand went to my back, and he began pushing me toward his office.

I kept my eyes closed, letting him guide me as we walked. Janice was right. He never listened or asked for an explanation. I needed to defend Liam, or he might fire him as he did to Beta Roman. But oh Goddess, I hope he didn’t really fire him.

“Did he touch you or say inappropriate words to you when you were alone yesterday?” He asked as he closed the door before he walked toward his desk and stood behind it while I remained in the middle of the room, in front of him.

I shook my head, but my tears fell.

“Then why are you crying?”

“You’re scaring me.”

“I’m not the one who hurt you!” He snapped at me.

“But you threatened everyone out there who has been nice to me. Now, I doubt if they will ever talk to me again. The Delta has said nothing but good words about you, and so do all of them. You took me here, but you didn’t say anything about what I should do. But they made sure I had food to eat and made me feel I could move around freely or ask them anything. In Constantine’s house, his maids would always shout at me if I asked them something. This is the first time in my life that the people I share the house with are nice to me.”

I wiped my tears and waited for him to say something, but he was just staring at me, and I couldn’t fathom his expression.

“I don’t need you to protect me from the very same people who are really nice to me.” I regretted the words the moment they slipped out of my lips.

“Do you like Liam?”
