THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA (IRIS and DRACO) novel Chapter 31

IRIS.

“I mean, it bothered me because of you. I don’t want you to kill him because the authorities might go after you. I’m not sure if you could get away with what happened to Gary, but I’m sure that with Constantine... He’s rich and powerful. He has connections, and if you kill him, they might come for you…”

“You think they will dare touch me?” He asked, his arms crossed across his chest. If earlier he looked furious, he looked rather amazed already.

“What will happen to me, Alpha, if you’re not here anymore?”

I saw the corner of his lips twitch as if he wanted to smile, but before he could say anything, a knock came through the door.

I turned around and saw Beta Roman standing there.

My protective instinct overpowered me, and I immediately rushed to his side, holding his arms as I pushed him back, away from the door, but his body was like metal. He didn’t even move an inch.

“What are you doing here? The Alpha is not yet ready to see you.” I told him in a hushed tone.

“If I were you, I would remove your hands from him, or he might end up really dead this time.” He didn't raise his voice, but it still sent chills down my spine.

My hands flew up in the air as my eyes widened. I tilted my head up to look at the Beta, who was staring directly at his Alpha. His expression was void of any emotion, so I could only imagine what Alpha Draco’s expression was. It felt as if both of them wanted to kill each other, and I was the one caught in the middle of the crossfire.

I swiftly turned around and walked toward Alpha Draco, wanting him to know my loyalty was with him but also wanting to make sure he wouldn’t kill Roman. I was sure that, between the two of them, he was more capable of killing Roman.

“Alpha…” I began as I approached him.

His arm moved, and in one swipe, it snaked around my waist as he grabbed me, pulling me toward him. Our fronts collided, and my hands went to his bare chest to keep my face from slamming into him.

“Will it bother you if I kill Roman?” He asked, his tongue swiping over his lips, and I felt my knees weakening.

My hands grabbed his shoulders for support. “What will happen to me if they take you after you keep killing all of them?”

His brows hiked up, probably because my response was just a repeat of what I said earlier.

I took a deep breath before continuing. “You’re the only one who has protected me all my life. So no, I’m not bothered if Constantine or Beta Roman dies, but not at your expense… I don’t want them to take you and punish you.”

The Beta cleared his throat before speaking. “I’m here. I can hear your conversation.”

I wanted to turn around and glare at him, but I didn’t. He should just keep his mouth shut because I was doing what I could to save him.

“I don’t think you understand that no one can take me unless I allow them.” Alpha Draco’s eyes narrowed at me before his lips twitched into a smirk. “But point taken… I’ll behave.”
