To Love a Shadow To Be the Sun novel Chapter 358

Elara turned to look at him.

Charles's eyes were red-rimmed. "Why couldn't it have been me in there instead of her?" he whispered.

Elara's gaze returned to the window. "Because she's tired and needs to rest. And you have more important things to do."

Charles looked at her, speechless.

"Finding a heart donor won't be easy," Elara continued. "Start the matching process immediately, and find out which lab in Capital City is doing the cell cultivation. She still has some time before her heart fails completely. We might be able to buy enough time for the cultivated heart technology to work."

For the first time, Charles noticed the sharp logic in Elara's words.

"You focus on how to save her. I'll handle finding the person who did this."

Seeing that he was too overwhelmed to respond, Elara calmly turned and walked away.

Zane, worried, followed her.

Just as she reached the elevators, her phone rang. It was Jason.

"Is your friend out of surgery?" he asked.

Elara, her mood bleak, simply grunted in affirmation.

"Then why haven't you come to see me?" he pressed.

"Can you please try to understand?" she retorted.

Jason was taken aback.

Zane laughed softly. "You were right there at the bottom of the stairs. If you were the target, the dagger would be in your chest, not hers."

"Then he must have made a mistake. It's still my fault she's like this."

Her composure finally broke, and she began to sob. "I must be cursed. That's why my parents abandoned me. Then, just when I found a little bit of warmth with the Linden family, Gage… I'm probably just not meant to be happy."

Zane pulled her into a tight embrace. "Your parents' choices and the Linden family's tragedy were not your fault. The fact that you've endured so much proves you're stronger than any so-called fate. Don't trap yourself in what others have said. The road ahead is long. We'll take it one step at a time, okay?"

When she didn't respond, he added, "Besides, how can you be so sure your parents abandoned you?"

At the mention of her parents, Elara bit her lip hard. "If they hadn't driven me away so cruelly, why wouldn't I remember their faces? Why wouldn't I even know my own name? I gave a blood sample for a DNA search, and there have been no matches. Doesn't that prove they abandoned me on purpose and never looked for me?"

Zane's heart clenched. "You… you don't remember your childhood? And you gave blood at Mercy General Hospital?"
