Chapter 136
Sophia felt a bit uneasy and instinctively glanced in the mirror, only to see a tall, imposing figure standing behind her.
His features were strikingly defined, and his sharp, hawk–like eyes held a subtle warmth that made him seem unexpectedly approachable.
“Mr. Sterling, what are you doing here?” Sophia blurted out in surprise.
Richard gently freed her hair from the zipper and zipped it up.
His fingers accidentally brushed against the warm skin of her back–it was like a jolt of electricity ran through him. making his fingertips tingle,
“I was just nearby, checking around. Annabelle mentioned you were here, so I thought I’d come over and see you,” Richard said.
Sophia felt her heart race, standing right at the doorway of the fitting room with Richard–if anyone saw them, they’d totally get the wrong idea. The air between them was just too charged.
Sophia forced an awkward smile, trying to break the tension. She said, “Sorry for all that trouble. Let’s get out of here.”
Richard just nodded. As they stepped out together, Sophia spotted Annabelle coming up the stairs with the sales clerk. Relief washed over her–finally, someone else was here.
Annabelle’s eyes lit up when she saw them standing side by side. She thought, ‘Wow, they really look amazing together–he’s so handsome, and she’s so pretty.
‘If Uncle Richard ends up with Sophie, then Sophie would actually be my aunt.‘
Thinking about that made her mood suddenly dip.
Richard was tall and striking, and Sophie was gentle and adorable. The couple vibes between them were just off the charts.
Annabelle thought, ‘If Uncle Richard can give Sophie real happiness, I guess I could get used to calling her
aunt.‘
“Sophie, I just ran downstairs and found two more dresses for you to try on!” Annabelle chirped, practically bouncing with excitement.
The sales clerk hurried over, arms full–one was a black puffy ball gown sprinkled with sparkly diamonds, the other a sleek, light blue floor–length dress.
Sophia still thought the one she had on looked great, but Annabelle leaned in with a wink. She said, “Go on, give these a shot! Uncle Richard hand–picked them straight from the catalog.”
Annabelle thought, ‘Uncle Richard really has killer taste–both of these totally suit Sophie!
Sophia hadn’t thought much of it at first, but just remembering the intimate, charged atmosphere in the fitting room made her face flush with heat.
She couldn’t bring herself to look at Richard, quickly turning away and following the sales clerk back into the firing room, trying to hide the blush blooming on her cheeks.
This time, the sales clerk waited right outside the fitting room, ready to help Sophia with any adjustments as soon as she came out.
The sales clerk smiled admiringly and said, “Mr. Sterling really has an eye for style! This black dress fits you like it was custom–designed.”
Sophia agreed.
She said. “It’s gorgeous, but it’s just way too expensive.”
She thought, ‘200 thousand dollars for a dress? It’s all about the glitz but not much substance. I’d probably wear it once, and then it’d just sit unworn in my closet forever. What a waste.’
The sales clerk flashed a sly smile and said, “A woman always dresses up for herself—even if a dress costs a fortune, none of them could ever outshine you.
“There may be a million gorgeous dresses in the world, but there’s only one you. You’re truly irreplaceable.”
Sophia let out a soft laugh and shook her head. She thought, ‘No wonder she can hold down a job at a high- end boutique—she can really talk the talk.‘
Sophia swept out of the fitting room, one hand lifting the hem of her dress with effortless grace. Richard, who’d just been pretending to read a fashion magazine, glanced up.
The moment his gaze landed on Sophia, his eyes darkened with intensity.
This black evening gown was anything but ordinary; it was high fashion with an edge. The collar featured a chic pleat, and the waistline had a daring cut–out, showing off a flash of her creamy skin.
The skirt split dramatically, with brilliant diamonds sewn into the slit, sparkling and catching the light with every step Sophia took. Sophia looked powerful, elegant–like she owned the room.
