Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 148

Chapter 148

Annabelle asked, Sophie, if the DNA results show you’re not actually an Evans, what will you do?

Sophia caught Annabelle’s worried look and grinned. She said, Wouldn’t that mean we should celebrate finally escaping all their misery?

If she weren’t Charles’s daughter, she could finally stop worrying about their cold shoulders.

Annabelle had worried Sophia would be devastated, but hadn’t expected her to just shrug it off.

Yeah, who needs a family that only knows how to play favorites?Annabelle chimed in.

Richard sat quietly nearby, his gaze fixed on Sophia. Whenever she smiled, her whole face lit up.

Sophia grabbed the pot and stood up to refill their cups. She said, Seriously, don’t stress about me. I’ve gotten pretty much unbreakable these days.

Yes, yes, let’s dig in! As soon as we’re done, we’re off to the labI wouldn’t miss witnessing history for anything,Annabelle laughed and said.

Sophia sat back down with a grin and turned to Richard. She asked, Mr. Sterling, got any plans for later?

She thought, Guys like him probably have their nights booked solid.’

Richard raised an eyebrow and said, If you don’t mind, Ms. Evans, I’d like to be there to witness the historic moment too.

Sophia was momentarily stunned.

She grumbled inwardly, Even Richard, the guy whose moral compass is practically legendary, is getting in on the drama? Is this some kind of moral collapse or just a sign humanity’s losing it?

Soon, the table was loaded with mouthwatering disheseach one a feast for the eyes, nose, and taste buds.

Sophia picked up the serving fork and placed the tenderest piece of fish belly onto Annabelle’s plate. She said, Eat up. You must be exhausted from all that drama tonight.

Annabelle propped her chin on her hand, snickering. She said, I never thought Emily would actually tumble down the stairs herself. Is she just dumb or what?

Sophia shook her head with a soft laugh. She said, She’s not dumb, just tried to set me up and ended up shooting herself in the foot.

The best part was when David fell right on top of Emily. That screamman, I swear I heard her bones crack,Annabelle said, grinning with glee.

Annabelle thought, She shouldn’t have framed Sophie. It serves her right.

Sophia placed another piece of fish onto Annabelle’s plate and said, Even stuffing you full doesn’t shut you up

for a second, does it?

Annabelle gave her a goofy, satisfied grin.

Just as Sophia was about to set down the serving fork, she noticed Richard, sitting to her left, staring intently

at her fork.

Mr. Sterling, is something wrong?she asked.

Richard snapped out of it, lifted his chin with a touch of formality, and pointed to the dish farthest away. He said, I can’t reach that one. Could you help me out, Ms. Evans?

Sophia was totally baffled.

She grumbled inwardly, Isn’t this a lazy Susan? Can’t he just spin it himself?

But she held back the questionno need to ruin the vibe by being too literal.

She rotated the lazy Susan, scooped up a serving with the communal fork, and offered it to Richard. She said, Mr. Sterling, give this a try.

Richard nodded, sampled the food, then, with classic understatement, gave his take.

Tasty. I want more,” he said.

Annabelle just gawked at him, totally floored.

She thought, Is Uncle Richard playing the innocent?

After dinner, when Sophia went to pay the Billy, she found out someone had already taken care of it.

Sophia pondered, Annabelle hadn’t left my side the whole meal, so the only one who could’ve slipped away is Richard, who’d gone to the restroom for a bit.

It must be him.

Sophia couldn’t help feeling a bit helpless. While they waited for the car, she said, Mr. Sterling, I was supposed to treat you tonight.”

It’s fine. Next time, just you and meyour treat,Richard replied.

Sophia paused, glancing up at the tall, composed man in front of her. Something shifted unexpectedly in her chest.

She thought, Wait, does Richard actually like me?

She instantly shut that thought down. To permit her thoughts to wander even for a moment in Richard’s direction felt like a transgression. It felt utterly unworthy of his noble character.

Okay,” Sophia said quietly.
