Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 149

Chapter 149

The three slid into the black RollsRoyce Phantom, and soon they were cruising toward Pioneer Institute, coming to a stop right at the gates of the science park.

All three stepped out and headed straight into Pioneer Institute.

Meanwhile, Lucas had just left the party and looked around for Sophia.

He called over his assistant, his face darkening. He asked, Where’s Sophia? She went to the restroom ages ago. Did she get lost in there or what?

Then he noticed Annabelle and Richard were gone too.

Earlier, when Richard showed up at the family reunion, Billy dragged him and Linda over to greet him.

Lucas couldn’t stand Richard.

That day at the gates of Cherry Grove, Lucas had watched helplessly as Richard carried Sophia away, then ordered his bodyguards to beat Lucas up.

Even now, Lucas could still feel the sting of that humiliation. There was no way he could ever like Richard, a guy who acted so high and mighty, so arrogant and domineering.

Lucas thought, But Grandfather seems to be sucking up to Richard, just because he is the CEO of that fancy investment bank?

Seriously, nowadays if you’ve got cash, you can just do whatever you damn well please!’

After brushing off Richard, Lucas went searching for Sophia, only to realize she was nowhere in sight.

His assistant replied, I don’t know, sir. Haven’t seen Mrs. Westwood for quite a while.”

So what are you waiting for? Go look for her!Lucas snapped.

The assistant hesitated, then said, Mr. WestwoodMs. Evans took a nasty fall down the stairs just now. It looked pretty serious; an ambulance was here.

What did you just say?Lucas shouted furiously, grabbing his assistant by the collar. He demanded, Say it againnow!

The assistant said nervously, Word is Mrs. Westwood pushed Ms. Evans down the stairs. Ms. Evans is in the hospital nowemergency room, critical condition.

Lucas’s heart dropped. Just hearing emergency roomwas enoughhe knew Emily must be badly hurt.

With a rough shove, he pushed his assistant aside and strode out the door without a second thought.

Even as Billy called after him, Lucas didn’t slow down or turn backhe ignored Billy completely and walked out without looking back.

At the hospital, the Evans familyCharles, Margaret, and Davidwere all waiting anxiously outside the operating room. Margaret kept dabbing at her eyes, tears streaming down her face.

Margaret snapped, This is all your fault. Look at how out of control Sophia’s gotten. If anything happens to Emily, I swear I’ll never forgive you!

Charles looked just as worried. He said, How was I supposed to know she’d get this reckless? David, what exactly happened in the stairwell? Why did Sophia suddenly flip like that, acting totally different?

Back then, no matter how much they scolded her, Sophia never dared to talk back. Now, she actually had the guts to threaten them.

David looked awkward as he replied, I think Emily said something to Sophia. Dad, Mom, do you think she’s actually starting to suspect something?

Margaret clenched her fists and said, Even if she does start suspecting something, who cares? The company’s ours, and she doesn’t know a thing about what happened back then. What can she actually do to us?

Charles paced anxiously in front of the operating room, hands behind his back. He said, Why’s Emily suddenly digging up that old mess?

An uncle stealing his niece’s inheritanceno matter how one spun it, it sounded dirty. After years of playing the gentleman, Charles still needed to save face.

Margaret glared at him and said, That wretch must’ve messed with Emily again. That’s why Emily snapped and spilled the beans.

Charles, Emily’s been hurt so badly because of Sophia! Don’t tell me you’re still thinking of covering for her?”

Charles looked from Margaret to David. Then he said, Let’s just let this go. Stirring up trouble isn’t going to help any of us.”

He was all about keeping the peace, but he didn’t realize how David and Margaret were both seething inside, nowhere near ready to let things go.

No way were they planning to let Sophia get away with this so easily.

Meanwhile, at Pioneer Institute’s lab, Sophia plucked a strand of her own hair, dropped the follicle into a vial of reagent, then loaded it into the machine to start the analysis.

Clad in a white lab coat, goggles, and a mask, she seemed calm, collected, and completely focused.

Richard stood on the other side of the glass wall, his eyes glued to her, unable to look away.
