Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 196

Chapter 196

Three days later, the private investigator asked Sophia to meet up at a café. He said he had uncovered something.

Sophia was well enough now, so she drove herself to the café.

Ms. Evans, here’s the information you asked me to look into, the private investigator said, sliding a manila envelope across the table to her.

Sophia picked up the envelope and pulled out a thick stack of papers.

Several photos peeked out from the pile.

She lowered her gaze to the photos. The pictures were old, yellowed, and some spots were weathered and blurry from years of careless storage.

But it was still clear that this particular photo had been taken at a construction site.

In the photo, a dozen or so people sat on freshly unloaded bricks, arms slung around each other’s shoulders.

Everyone else faded into the background except for the man and woman closest to the lens. The guy had sharp features and looked a lot like Charles.

That had to be her real father.

The woman he had his arm draped over was in a flowery dress, but her face was too blurred to make out, due to the years of wear and tear.

Sophia could barely make out a faint spot on the woman’s neckit might have been a mole, or maybe it was just a mark left from the photo aging so badly. She really couldn’t be sure.

This woman might just be her real mother.

Noticing her staring at the photo, the private investigator said, This picture has been through more than twenty years of wear and tear. It’s the only one that survived so well after all these years, thanks to one of Marcus’s old coworkers.

Sophia snapped out of her thoughts. Thanks. It must have been tough to track this down, right?

Yeah, it wasn’t easy. With all the tech these days, everyone just snaps photos on their phones and never bothers to print them out. That makes old photos like this even more precious, the private investigator replied.

Sophia’s fingers lightly brushed over the man’s faded, timeworn face in the photograph. Despite the grayness in the photo, there was still a vibrant energy shining through his features.

This was her real father.

Sophia was surprised. When the Evans family had first brought her back, even when she saw Charles for the very first time, she hadn’t felt that surge of family bond at all.

Yeah, back then, getting a picture taken cost several bucks each. For most ordinary families, that was a real luxury,Sophia

commented.

Sophia steadied herself, looked up at the private investigator, and asked, Apart from the photos, did you find out anything

else?

Back then, Marcusthe private investigator began.

Marcus left his hometown and headed to Jelasburg to make a living. He started as a construction laborer, hauling bricks on job sites. Through a stroke of luck and hard work, he eventually became a foreman.

He was the kind of guy one could always count on, and he had a gift for dealing with people. It wasn’t long before he built up a company of his own.

That year, he unexpectedly saved Gwen, and the two instantly fell head over heels for each other.

Once Marcus’s company took off, he was ready to marry Gwen. But out of nowhere, Gwen’s family showed up and refused to let her marry someone they thought was beneath her.

Gwen’s parents went out of their way to break them apart, forcing the couple to split. In the end, Gwen just couldn’t handle the pressure and was dragged back home.

But by that time, Gwen was already pregnant with Marcus’s baby. Because she was innocent and unfamiliar with pregnancy, she only realized it when she was six months along.

It was too late for an abortion.

Gwen fought desperately to keep her baby safe. Three months later, she gave birth to a baby girl, and her parents left the newborn right at the entrance of Marcus’s company.

They lied to Gwen, telling her she had delivered a stillborn baby and that they had already buried her. Gwen believed them, and eventually she moved abroad with her parents.

Marcus took his daughter in, kept her close, and to guarantee her wellbeing, he set up a sizable trust fund for her. He even had a lawyer draft a will, giving his entire estate to her.
