Chapter 198
That evening, Sophia treated Erica to dinner to thank her for coming to help.
Erica was straightforward and easygoing, and she and Sophia hit it off right away.
They exchanged contact information, and the three of them created a small group chat. After dinner, they
each went home.
Over dinner, the three of them chatted and laughed, enjoying a glass of red wine.
On the way back, Sophia called for a designated driver. While waiting outside for the person to arrive, two bodyguards appeared in front of them.
“Mrs. Westwood, Mr. Westwood asked us to bring you back to the Westwood residence,” said one of the bodyguards.
With the way those two looked, it was obvious that if Sophia refused, they would have no problem hauling her off by force.
Sophia glanced at Annabelle, who was so drunk that she could barely stand, and gave in. “Okay, but let me get my friend home first.”
The bodyguards made a “please” gesture, but it was clear they weren’t taking no for an answer. Sophia was forced to help Annabelle into the car under their watch.
As the car glided away, Sophia leaned back against the seat, letting her eyes drift shut to recharge for a
moment.
When they arrived at Annabelle’s place, Sophia helped her into bed and set a glass of water on the nightstand, worried she might wake up thirsty in the middle of the night.
Once that was taken care of, she headed off with the bodyguards toward the Westwood residence.
Ever since she had made up her mind to divorce Lucas, she hadn’t been back to the Westwood residence.
Tonight, the entire manor was blazing with lights, as if they were rolling out the red carpet for a VIP.
Sophia was forced inside by the bodyguards.
Downstairs in the living room, Billy was sitting on the sofa. He didn’t even bother to look up when he heard footsteps.
What a phony old geezer, Sophia sneered internally. ‘Seriously? Sitting here drinking coffee at this hour, trying to look refined–doesn’t he worry that he’ll be tossing and turning all night?‘
Sophia rolled her eyes at his show and marched over, dropping herself onto the sofa without bothering to be polite.
“Mr. Westwood, you really went all out just to drag me back here. What happened?” Sophia said.
Billy poured her a cup of coffee and slid it over, saying, “Go ahead, try this fresh batch I just got.”
“I’m young.
and coffee keeps me up all night. Wouldn’t want to lose beauty sleep, so I’ll pass,” Sophia said.
Billy took a slow sip of coffee, savoring the aroma. “Sophia, I remember when you used to come by, all attentive and caring. Now you’re all grown up, too big for your britches, acting like you don’t even care about us anymore.”
“Mr. Westwood, you probably don’t even know that Lucas dragged me off to Ginkgo Town during a heavy rainstorm, hauled me up a mountain, and tied me to a tree. You tell me, was he trying to kill me or what?” Sophia shot back.
Billy’s mouth twitched a few times.
Billy said, “When we heard you were in Ginkgo Town, Helen and I were worried sick about you, so we sent him to bring you back. But he came back all banged up, and he still can’t even get out of bed.
“Sophia, you two are a married couple. People say it takes a lifetime to find your soulmate, so how did things get so messed up between you?
“If Lucas really crossed the line and hurt you, you know I’ll stand up for you.”
Billy tried to wave off the whole mess with a few casual lines, but Sophia wasn’t about to let that fly.
“Mr. Westwood, don’t bother standing up for me. Just tell him to give me that divorce, and we’re good,” Sophia
said.
Billy lowered his gaze, a flash of disdain in his eyes.
She really doesn’t know what’s good for her,’ he thought.
“It’s not easy to keep a marriage together, and it’s obvious you have deep feelings for Lucas. Don’t you think it’s a shame to just walk away like this?” Billy said.
Sophia shot back, “Mr. Westwood, do you really think your son is some kind of rare treasure? He’s a cheater, a wife–beater, and a complete jerk. What’s there to regret about leaving him?”
