Annabelle glanced down at her phone screen as it lit up and quickly urged, “Hurry up and answer it, Sophie.”
Sophia bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, but then picked up. “Um, Mr. Sterling, what can I do for you?”
“Don’t worry. I’m right here.” Richard’s low, magnetic voice came through the phone, instantly soothing her
nerves.
At that moment, Sophia felt her panic melt away. If Richard were there, every problem suddenly seemed so easy to handle.
“Did you see the trending topic?” she asked.
Richard responded, “Where are you? I’m coming to get you.”
Right now, she was definitely scared, and he couldn’t help worrying that someone might recognize her and make things worse for her.
Sophia took a quick look around before giving him her location. Richard simply said, “Wait for me,” and hung
Sophia’s heart skipped a beat. She gripped her phone tightly, her ears turning a little red.
Annabelle obviously caught the whole thing. She bumped into Sophia and snickered, “Oh, Uncle Richard is seriously swoon–worthy. Wait for him? How romantic!”
Sophia’s face went crimson as she reached over to cover Annabelle’s mouth. “Quit laughing.”
“Uncle Richard is a hundred times better than that jerk Lucas. Sophie, why don’t you just give him those puppy eyes? He’d totally help you settle everything.”
Honestly, about the divorce, if Richard stepped in, things would be way easier for Sophia.
But Annabelle knew Sophia all too well; this was just how she was.
She really hated bothering other people.
Sophia shook her head. “Mr. Sterling has a ton on his plate every day. How could I drag him into my personal mess?”
“If you were willing to ask for help, I bet Uncle Richard would absolutely love to help,” Annabelle teased.
Sophia gazed out the window at the bustling traffic, a faint smile tugging at her lips, but she didn’t say anything else.
Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office at Yadel Group, Lucas was glued to Twitter, watching the trending topic where everyone was ruthlessly dragging and trash–talking Sophia. He was positively gloating inside.
‘Let’s see if Sophia can still survive in Jelasburg without the Westwood family’s protection,‘ Lucas sneered to

himself.

“Mr. Westwood, everyone online is siding with Mrs. Westwood now. Isn’t this a little much?” Kevin asked. sounding reluctant.
He thought of Sophia’s years of dedicated service to the company. She didn’t deserve this.
‘Seriously, Mr. Westwood is way out of line here, Kevin thought bitterly.
Lucas fixed him with an icy stare. “She’s my woman. If I’m not feeling sorry for her, it’s definitely not your place to care.”
Kevin’s skin prickled with fear. “I overstepped, Mr. Westwood. I’ll get back to work now.”
“Get out!” Lucas snapped.
Once Kevin stepped out, Lucas went ballistic, trashing his office in a fit of rage.
He’d made all these calls for the good of the company, but everyone just shot him dirty looks like he was some heartless jerk.
‘Sophia, how the hell did you get all these people to take your side?‘ Lucas seethed quietly.
He couldn’t take it anymore and snatched up his phone, calling Sophia.
He called three times before she finally picked up.
“Sophia, you saw the trending topic, right? Beg me now, and maybe I’ll let you off the hook,” Lucas sneered.
Sophia shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “You really think you deserve that?”
Lucas let out a cold laugh. “All talk now, but I’ll be waiting for the day you beg me for mercy.”
“Lucas, after everything we’ve been through as a married couple, are you really going to go all out to destroy me?” Sophia said, her voice steady but laced with disbelief.
Even the most cunning business veterans know where to draw the line. He was only pushing her to the edge because he thought she had no one left to rely on.
Lucas sneered, “I told you–if you dare divorce me, I’ll make your life hell.”
“Fine, let’s see who’s really going to end up begging for mercy,” Sophia shot back, ice in her voice.
After she hung up, Sophia was so angry that her heart pounded in her chest. She had been too merciful.
Annabelle caught sight of Sophia’s grim expression and poked her arm. “Sophie, Uncle Richard just arrived.”
Sophia barely had time to recover before she glanced up–and there was Richard, striding in through the door.
