Chapter 213
He slipped his phone back into his pocket and strode toward her, closing the gap between them in just a few purposeful steps.
Sophia had just finished her ice cream and was about to reach for a napkin when Richard handed her a wet wipe.
She looked up to see Richard standing there, hurriedly took the wet wipe, and stood up as she wiped her hands.
“Thanks. Did you finish your call?” she asked.
“Yeah, let’s go. The staff over at the other side are waiting for us,” Richard replied.
Richard grabbed the wet wipe from Sophia’s hand and chucked it in the trash can.
Then, before she knew it, his big hand wrapped around her wrist.
His fingers were warm and strong, locking onto her–there was no way she was getting free.
Richard took Sophia by the hand, leading her straight to the main street before she even realized what was happening.
There, staff dressed up in fun cartoon costumes were waiting, surrounded by the decorated parade floats.
Sophia thought she’d missed her shot at seeing the parade since she’d shown up late, but somehow, thanks to Richard’s “superpower“, she’d scored a front–row experience after all.
On the parade float, a staff member decked out in a Mickey Mouse costume waved them over, inviting them to climb aboard.
Sophia turned to Richard, eyes sparkling with surprise. “Mr. Sterling, doesn’t this kind of thing burn through a ton of money?”
All these staffers had stuck around just to put on a show for the two of them–no way any of this happens without spending a fortune.
Richard didn’t say a word about how much he spent–he just smiled and said, “Your happiness is all I care
about.”
Sophia’s eyes lit up, practically glowing. “Mr. Sterling, how did I get so lucky? Why me?”
Richard gazed at her warmly. “Because you deserve it. Every bit of it.”
Sophia dropped her eyes, her face a little shy as she avoided his gaze. “Thank you… I’ve never been this happy before.”
Richard stepped onto the float first, one hand on the railing. He reached the other out to her.

“Come up,” he said gently.
Sophia hesitated for a moment, then laid her hand in his palm.
In an instant, his fingers closed warmly around hers.

He led her up onto the float, and the moment they stepped on, it rolled forward as music blasted through the speakers and the staff put on a lively show just for them.
If it had been daytime, the street would’ve been swarmed with tourists taking pictures. But tonight, the whole float parade was staged exclusively for Sophia.
Without the daytime bustle, this parade was hers alone–the spotlight, the magic, all for her and her only.
No one could possibly resist being the center of attention, the one and only, even if just for a night.
Sophia pulled out her phone, snapping a few photos while the guy dressed as Mickey Mouse on the float waggled his props playfully.
“Hey, want me to take a picture for you? I’m great at taking pics!” the Mickey performer called out.
Sophia turned to glance at Richard, spotting the parade lights sparkling in his eyes.
“Thanks, could you snap a few for us?” Sophia asked.
Richard moved to stand next to her, and the two of them ended up awkwardly side by side, stiff as robots.
Mickey chuckled, “Come on, you two, scoot closer—pretend you’re not posing for your graduation photo!”
Sophia sneaked a glance at Richard, her heart beating so hard she was afraid he’d hear it.
A second later, all she could smell was mint and salty ocean air as Richard slid a little closer, draping his arm casually over her shoulder.
Sophia sat ramrod straight, not at all used to being this close to him.
Mickey snapped a few pics and gave Sophia her phone back.
But with Richard standing right next to her, Sophia felt way too embarrassed to look at the photos, so she just tucked her phone into her bag.
After the parade wrapped up, the two of them left Universal Studios. Just as they stepped out, a pair of headlights flashed right in their faces.
Sophia squinted, spotting the sleek black Bentley parked by the curb.
The car door swung open, and Lucas stepped out from the back seat.
When he saw Richard and Sophia coming out of Universal Studios–with Sophia still rocking that cute, childish bear headband, Lucas’s expression instantly turned grim. He wasted no time, marching right up to them.
