The Man Who Destroyed Me Is Now
Chapter 212
Sophia felt a surge of panic and quickly took a step back, deliberately avoiding his hand.
Richard’s hand froze in midair for a second, then he quietly retracted it, all composure.
“Let’s go,” he said,
Sophia couldn’t bring herself to look into Richard’s eyes–what he’d just done was just way too suggestive.
She kept her head lowered, quietly walking ahead, her cars burning red–hot. The place on her lips where his fingertip had brushed felt like it was on fire, refusing to cool down.
Even smashing ice cream right on it didn’t help at all–the heat wouldn’t go away.
Richard rubbed his fingertips together, almost as if he could still feel that soft, warm touch lingering there.
He walked silently beside Sophia, occasionally turning his head to cast a quick glance at her.
Under the hazy glow of the streetlights, the tips of her ears were flushed a deep pink.
Every time he looked, it sent ripples through his heart, making it sway uncontrollably.
Right at that moment, Richard’s phone started ringing. He instantly masked any trace of emotion, fished out his phone, and picked up.
It was Edmund on the other end.
“Richard, is that stuff blowing up online for real? Did the Westwood family seriously bully Sophie like that?” Edmund asked.
He sounded so fired up.
Richard glanced over at Sophia, then spoke into the phone, “Hang on a moment, Dad.”
After that, he turned to Sophia. “It’s a call I have to take. Could you wait for me on the bench up ahead?”
Some things just weren’t meant to be talked about with the person right there.
Sophia couldn’t hear Edmund’s voice on the line, but the way Richard handled it made her think it was something important.
She nodded. “Alright, I’ll wait for you up ahead.”
Once she was out of earshot, Richard’s expression grew cold.
Edmund’s voice came through on the other end, “Wait a minute, did I just hear Sophie’s voice? You’re with her right now. I want to speak to her.”
Richard replied, “She can’t talk right now. Did you see what’s blowing up on Twitter?”

That comment snapped Edmund’s attention right back, his voice lowering, full of anger. “The Westwood family is unbelievable. How could they do that to such a good girl?”
Richard was the mastermind steering all the buzz online, so he knew exactly what was blowing up on Twitter right now.
He said, “The Westwood family won’t get away with this. They’re going to pay the price.
“Sophie’s been through way too much. Keeping her with the Westwood family is like letting a priceless gem gather dust,” Edmund said, his voice full of indignation.
With lightning–fast online intuition, Edmund was already up to speed on all the drama that’s blown up on the
internet.
Sophia was handling three roles at once–managing both marketing and sales, plus taking on work in the R&D Department.
Any company would kill to have a hidden gem like her–she’d be getting promotions and raises left and right.
But somehow, she ended up in the Westwood family’s hands, and they just squandered her talents like they didn’t even matter.
Richard gazed at Sophia from a distance, watching her quietly nibble on ice cream, lost in her own world on that bench.
She carried within her the finest qualities–kindness, integrity, and an unshakable sense of right and wrong.
Even when life dealt her an unfair hand, she never stopped reaching for the sunshine.
It was that fierce vitality of hers that had captivated him from the very start.
“Dad, what do you think about her becoming your daughter–in–law?” Richard asked.
Edmund was momentarily stunned, then blurted out, “So, you’re finally coming around, huh?”
Richard was already 29, after all.
After all these years without showing any interest in women and spending more than a decade overseas, Edmund had genuinely worried his son might’ve picked up some strange foreign quirks.
But now, hearing Richard say that, Edmund was practically bursting with joy.
Richard said, “I’m trying to win her over.”
But honestly, he wasn’t sure if he’d actually succeed.
Edmund slapped his thigh, grinning from ear to ear. “Perfect! Sophie is such a sweetheart–if you two end up together, I’d support it with all my heart!”
Now that he’d come clean with Edmund and gotten the support he’d expected, Richard felt the tension melt away, his brows finally easing.

*Richard, if you’re gonna chase someone, you better show some real spirit! Go on, don’t mess around–get to it! I’m hanging up now.”
Richard stared at his now–dead phone, shaking his head.
