Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Emily and David watched as the black Rolls–Royce pulled away. Emily asked, “David, who was that guy with Sophia just

now?”

David frowned. “No clue,” he said flatly. But anyone driving a car like that had to be loaded. ‘Since when did Sophia start hanging out with such a rich guy?‘ he wondered.

Jealousy churned inside Emily, though none of it showed on her face. “Sophia went back to the Evans family, then married. into the Westwoods. She really landed on her feet.”

David caught the sour note in her voice. He put an arm around her shoulders. “Don’t sweat it. You’re back now. Lucas is yours, and the Evans family has your back.”

Emily hugged his waist and rested her head on his chest, her hair brushing against his shirt. She smiled, completely satisfied. “I knew it. No one treats me better than you, David.”

David’s heart thumped. He looked at her with so much warmth it was almost tangible. “Don’t worry. I won’t let anyone ignore you when I’m around.”

A trace of triumph curled on Emily’s lips. “David, don’t tell Lucas we saw Sophia getting into that car, okay? If he gets the wrong idea and thinks she’s cheating, that’d be awful.”

David’s face darkened as he looked down at her. He thought about how selfless Emily was–even now, she was worried about Sophia instead of blaming her for all the crap she’d been through.

He gave her hair a gentle ruffle. “Don’t worry. I won’t say a word.”

But a minute later, he sent Lucas the photo he’d snapped–Sophia climbing into the car with that stranger.

He hoped Lucas would dump Sophia for Emily ASAP. If David couldn’t have Emily himself, he’d make sure she got what she wanted.

At Yadel Group, Lucas was fuming. He glared at Brody Lewis, the director of the R&D Department. “It’s been a month. Why is there zero progress on the regenerating cream?”

Brody felt helpless. With his two best people gone, he was stuck.

“Mr. Westwood, you fired Dr. Lynn,” Brody said. “She was the key to the skin regeneration tech. That’s why we’re stuck. And then there’s Dr. Evans-”

Hearing Brody mention “Dr. Lynn,” Lucas instantly regretted firing her. But at the mention of “Dr. Evans,” that regret vanished, replaced by pure anger.

“Dr. Evans?” Lucas snapped. “I know exactly what she’s capable of. Is Sophia putting you up to this? Even if she wants back in, she shouldn’t have sent you to plead for her.”

He refused to believe Sophia was anything but a nuisance–someone who just couldn’t let go.

Brody didn’t know Lucas had Sophia that wrong. He instinctively tried to explain. “Mr. Westwood, Dr. Evans is seriously

talented. Her work-”

“How much did she pay you?” Lucas cut him off. He couldn’t imagine any other reason for Brody to defend her. ‘Of course she couldn’t just leave quietly. She has to cause trouble, he thought.

Brody stiffened. “Dr. Evans has too much integrity to bribe anyone. She’s knowledgeable and more than capable. The only problem is your prejudice, Mr. Westwood.”

“Enough!” Lucas barked. “You’ve got three days. Show me progress on that cream, or you’re out. Now get out of my sight.” Brody retreated, frustrated. If Yadel Group didn’t pay so well, he wouldn’t put up with this for a second.

On his way back to the lab, he dialed Sophia’s number, but there was no answer. He shook his head. ‘Mr. Westwood has no idea he let a real gem get away. He’s gonna regret this one day, he thought.

Meanwhile, Lucas was still seeing red. He yanked at his tic, finally loosening it enough to breathe.

Just then, his phone lit up with a message from David. He opened it.

A photo appeared. It showed a tall man in a steel–blue suit helping Sophia into a car. They were standing close, like they were old friends.

Lucas’s anger flared. The thought of someone moving in on what was his pissed him off. Immediately, he called her.

The air in Richard’s car felt heavy with his presence. Sophia shifted in her seat, turning to stare out the window.

Sophia met his gaze and saw the playful glint there. “No. There’s nothing to explain.”

She and Lucas would be completely done soon, and he could think whatever he wanted. The knot in her chest finally

loosened.

Soon, the car pulled up in front of Unity Care Hospital. Sophia got out and followed Richard through a maze of corridors to Edmund Sterling’s private suite.

The room was spacious, with a sitting area, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Edmund was propped up in bed, looking surprisingly energetic for a patient.

The moment he saw Richard walk in with a young woman, Edmund’s face broke into a warm, broad smile. “You must be the one who saved me.”

Something about Edmund’s genuine kindness put Sophia at ease, and the tension left her shoulders. “You look a lot better than you did the other day.

Edmund nodded cheerfully. “If you hadn’t gotten me here so fast, I’d probably be six feet under.

“Dad, enough.” Richard’s tone held a trace of exasperation. “Don’t even joke about that. You’re going to live to be a hundred.”

That single word–Dad–threw Sophia. Richard looked at most thirty, but Edmund was well into his seventies. She’d assumed they were grandfather and grandson.

Edmund ignored Richard and motioned for Sophia to come closer. “Come here. Let me get a good look at the person who saved my life.”

Sophia stepped to the bedside, sitting down and letting him take her hand.

Edmund beamed at her. “You’re a lovely girl. Got a boyfriend? If not, what do you think of my son here?”
