Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 99

But just as she reached for the plate, Richard suddenly grabbed her wrist in a firm, almost possessive grip. Richard shot her a frosty look. “Who said I can’t handle it?”

The heat of his hand was almost shocking, and Sophia yanked her arm back like she’d been burned, her heart pounding out

of control.

She instinctively clutched her wrist, as if his touch had left a sizzling mark, the warmth stubbornly refusing to fade.

Richard shot her a quick glance, then slid the plate in front of himself. He took the fork Jason handed him and slowly finished off the remaining pancakes.

Edmund’s eyes kept flicking between Richard and Sophia, taking them both in. The more he watched, the more pleased he

became.

‘Sophia was the ideal wife for Richard. Apart from having been previously married, she had no faults to speak of. But even that did not matter because second marriages often bring even more love and care.

Now it was just up to Richard. If he wasn’t interested, well, she’d end up as some other man’s blessing, Edmund thought.

Sophia had been busy all day, hiking and making bread. With her stomach empty, she hesitated for a moment, then decided to grab a piece of bread to stave off the hunger.

But before she could even make a move, Edmund handed the plate to Jason. “Put this in the fridge for me. I’ll eat it

tomorrow.”

Sophia was left speechless. ‘Are these two teaming up just to mess with me?‘ she thought, a little exasperated.

The scent of those pancakes hung in the air, making Sophia’s stomach rumble loud enough for everyone to hear. She clutched her belly in a panic, ducking her head, feeling totally mortified.

Edmund looked a bit taken aback. “Sophie, you haven’t had dinner yet?”

Sophia said quietly, “I only tried a bit while I was cooking.”

When the bread was made, she’d been so focused on delivering it to Edmund while they were still hot, she totally forgot to feed herself first.

Edmund let out a sigh. “Well. Jason, go whip up something for Sophie to eat.” Then he pushed the snacks on the coffee table closer to Sophia. “Here, have some of these to tide you over.”

They made their way over to the window seats, and Richard asked, “White or black?”

“Black,” Sophia said without hesitation. She’d picked black the first time they played chess, and somehow, it had become her default ever since.

Richard pushed the black chess set toward her. “Go ahead, you’re up first.” They played quietly, each making their own moves, but somehow their styles just clicked together.

It wasn’t long before the auntie appeared with chicken noodle soup, the savory scent spreading through the whole room.

Sophia munched on her chicken noodle soup while eyeing the chessboard. Just as she dropped a piece into place, she grinned at Richard and announced, “I win.”

Richard was lost in thought when her clear, cheerful voice suddenly brought him back to reality. Looking back at the chessboard, he saw that her black pieces had formed a line of five, but his white pieces still controlled a slightly larger area.

He chuckled softly, looking up at the smiling Sophia. “How about you teach me how to play chess?”
