Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 102

So what exactly was Travis trying to do?

Amanda mulled it over, her brows knitting together. “Honestly, I’ve been thinking about that for a while. I guess… when I jumped, he ran after me right away, probably to try and grab me, but then he slipped by accident—”

The more Cindy listened, the darker her expression became. By the time Amanda finished, Cindy was nodding like crazy.

“Exactly! That’s got to be it! Travis is just a selfish jerk. There’s no way he jumped off a cliff for you. I’d never believe that, not in a million years!”

Amanda nodded too. “Anyone who buys that story is an idiot.”

If this had happened before, she would’ve been so touched by Travis jumping after her that she’d have given him her whole heart, no questions asked.

But now? She was thinking clearly. She saw things for what they were. She knew exactly what Travis was like.

There was no way he’d ever jump off the cliff for her.

He fell because he slipped. That was the only thing that made sense.

Cindy pulled her into a hug. “Don’t let that loser mess with your mood. Just focus on getting better. When you’re out of the hospital, let’s go out for dinner. And when you go abroad, I’ll come visit you, I swear.”

Amanda hugged her back, suddenly feeling all mushy inside. “You’re the real deal, you know that?”

After Cindy left, Amanda lay back on her hospital bed and let her mind go blank.

She was just starting to relax when the door swung open again.

She figured Cindy must’ve forgotten something.

“Cindy…” she called out as she opened her eyes—only to see a tall, sharp-looking figure standing in the doorway. Her smile froze.

“What are you doing back here?”

Didn’t Travis storm off already?

Travis didn’t say a word. His face was cold as ever as he tossed something onto her bed.

Instinctively, Amanda caught it.

It’s her phone.

She hadn’t grabbed it when she ran out of the villa. Now, seeing it again, her eyes lit up.

Finally, something to keep her occupied. She could only stare at the ceiling for so long.
