When Amanda opened her eyes, she was back in the villa she’d called home for the last seven years. The moment Michelle saw her awake, her worry practically melted into relief “Amanda, come on, drink this soup: You need to get your strength back*
Michelle had been beside herself when Travis carried Amanda through the door. Even though Amanda had texted from Rocktown, letting her know she was safe, Michelle couldn’t help but worry Engagement parties meant everything to Amanda, who had been head–over–heels for Travis for so many years.
As a woman, Michelle understood that feeling–the kind of heartbreak that leaves you completely shattered when your dreams suddenly fall apart. What made it worse was that Mr. Hill didn’t even seem to care.
No matter how many times Amanda said she was fine, Michelle just couldn’t buy it. She was scared Amanda would do something reckless. Now that Amanda was home, right under her nose, Michelle could finally breathe a little easier.
She’d watched Amanda grow up ever since she first moved to London. Amanda was genuine, warm, and the kind of person who’d give you the shirt off her back. It was such a shame Mr. Hill never realized what he had.
Amanda was really worn out, and could use an energy boost. She knew her own words could jinx Travis if she wanted to, but cursing someone you once lovedalways came at a price. Even if that love was long gone.
Amanda finished the whole bowl of soup in a few big gulps. She set the bowl down and flashed Michelle a bright, sweet smile. “Thank you, Michelle. You’re the best.”
Michelle’s heart twisted. After everything Amanda had been through, she could still find the strength to smile. Michelle reached out and squeezed her hand. “Just rest now. Take care of yourself. Nothing matters more than your health.”
Amanda nodded. She knew she had to get back on her feet–she wasn’t done yet.
She’d made up her mind. When she’d first come to London, she’d been innocent, her reputation spotless. She wasn’t about to leave with stains on her name. If everyone thought she was the one who’d drugged Travis, then she’d find out who really did it and drag them out into the open.
The party had only been in a small private room, with just a handful of people. The number of suspects was limited. Amanda replayed everything in her mind, narrowing it down to three people.
When Mateo walked into the lounge, Travis was already well on his way to getting drunk, tossing back one glass after another.
Mateo was the Litz family’s heir, and his family had been close with the Hills for generations. He and Travis had been friends forever.
Travis had this cold, distant vibe that kept most people at arm’s length. Mateo was the exact

opposite, all easy smiles and calm warmth. They were both power players in London, but the way. they carried themselves couldn’t have been more different. Travis was untouchable. Mateo was like a soft, gentle breeze—just as impressive, but way more approachable.
Mateo sat down next to Travis, tall and relaxed, a small smile on his lips. “What’s this about? Drowning your sorrows? That’s not like you, Travis.”
