Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 23

By the time they finished eating, the city was already wrapped in darkness and the night was just getting started.

Cindy, the eldest daughter of the Litz family, was basically a walking guidebook for London’s nightlife. She knew every cool spot, every hidden gem, and exactly how to have a good time. And when it came to mending a broken heart, she was an expert.

So tonight, she took Amanda to one of the most exclusive private clubs in town. The place was alive with music, neon lights flickering everywhere, and an energy that made your pulse race. The male models working there were all tall, tanned and ridiculously goodlooking, with perfect smiles and chiseled abs that looked straight out of a magazine.

Amanda’s eyes practically sparkled. She grabbed Cindy’s hand, buzzing with excitement. Woah, I take it back! I should have come out with you every single time you asked!

She thought about how she used to turn down every invite. All her time and energy had gone into Travis. She used to avoid places like this, worried he’d think she was some wild party girl. Now she couldn’t care less what he thought. What mattered was her own happiness.

With that in mind, Amanda and Cindy hit the dance floor, spinning, jumping, losing themselves in the music. All those bottledup emotions seemed to melt away, carried off with every beat and every drop. of sweat. For the first time in ages, Amanda actually felt free.

She didn’t notice the eyes watching her from a VIP booth nearby.

Hey, lookdoesn’t that girl on the dance floor look just like Amanda?Emmanuel whispered to the man next to him.

James lifted his head at the mention of her name. He was lounging in the booth, sunglasses on, champagne in hand, the picture of effortless cool. Emmanuel, his evereager sidekick, kept his greedy gaze glued to Amanda. Tonight, she was stunning: a sparkling short dress, flawless makeup, long wavy hair tumbling down her back. Every move she made seemed to tease and tempt, and Emmanuel could barely contain himself.

At the sound of her name, James slid off his sunglasses, eyes narrowing as he spotted her. The most dazzling girl on the dance floor really was Amanda. Excitement flickered across his face. Last time, she’d called him a bastard right in front of everyonehe still hadn’t lived that down. Now, fate had dropped her right into his lap.

He flashed Emmanuel a knowing look. Go.

Emmanuel didn’t hesitate. Grinning, he rubbed his hands together and made his way toward the dance floor. James took out his phone, ready to catch everything on video.

Amanda was lost in the music, completely in the moment. Then, out of nowhere, she felt a hand grab her butt. Her whole body tensed and she stopped dancing, whipping around to look. But everyone nearby was lost in their own world, faces halfhidden behind masks, moving to the beat. There was no way to tell who’d touched her.

A sly smile crept onto Amanda’s face. Under her breath, she muttered, Whoever just touched mel
