Amanda’s hands curled into tight fists. Her chest hurt so much it felt hard to breathe, the pain pulsing with every heartbeat.
The canceled engagement party had been humiliating. But in the middle of all that hurt, something finally clicked for her.
She’d been chasing after Travis for so long, trying to win over a heart that was always cold to her. If he’d really loved her, would Chad have ever dared to treat her like this? Honestly, she’d been the one putting herself down, always giving too much and getting nothing in return. No wonder everyone around Travis felt they could treat her however they wanted.
Before you can love someone else, you have to love yourself first.
Amanda forced a small smile and nodded toward the second floor of her house.
“Hey, look up there. What do you see?”
Chad glanced up. When he spotted what was mounted above the window, his eyes went wide.
A security camera.
Arms crossed, Amanda watched him with a half-smile, not bothering to hide her amusement.
“So what do you think will happen if I send Travis the footage of how you just acted? Or, better yet, post it online? You’re nothing but a servant Travis pays to hang around. Who gave you permission to act so tough?”
She lowered her voice, every word clear.
“I’ll only say this once. Travis and I are done. I don’t want anything to do with him or anyone in his circle. Leave now, and I’ll pretend you were never here.
“If you don’t, the whole world’s going to see what you’re really like.”
Chad’s face twisted with anger. He couldn’t believe this was Amanda, the same girl who used to let everyone walk all over her, actually standing up to him and threatening him.
Being rude to Amanda might not seem like a big deal, but it was a different story if Travis found out. Amanda was still, technically, Travis' fiancée. Disrespecting her was like disrespecting Travis.
Chad glared at the camera and spat out,
“You’d better mean it. Don’t ever go crawling back to Travis. You should know your place. You’ll never be anything like Ms. Price. You don’t deserve him!”
Amanda’s eyes went cold.
