Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 68

He put the photo album down and his dark eyes landed quietly on her.

“Why?”

Amanda let out a sigh, meeting his gaze. She pulled herself out of his arms and sat across from him, calm and steady.

“I don’t want to marry you anymore.”

“You don’t want to marry me?” Travis let out a cold laugh. His face, always so composed, now looked stormy and hard. His words cut right through her. “You chased after me for years. You drugged me. You even took a knife for me. And now you’re saying you don’t want to marry me?”

Amanda felt anger flare up inside her.

She took a deep breath, trying to keep herself together.

“Yeah, I chased you for years because I thought I had the right to love whoever I wanted. I took a knife for you because I loved you. But let me tell you, if someone tried to stab you now, I wouldn’t lift a finger. And about drugging you—please. I’m not that desperate.”

Her voice got sharper. “This is the last time I’m saying it. I never drugged you.”

The tension between them was so thick it was almost painful.

Travis looked furious.

Amanda was all thorns.

Travis felt his temples pounding. He rubbed at them, trying to calm himself down. When Amanda said she didn’t want to marry him, it was like something exploded inside him and he couldn’t help what he said.

He reached out, trying to soften his tone.

“Sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.”
