Chapter 107 Not Wanting to Deal With Him

Violet froze in place.

As soon as her anger started to fade, she grabbed Beatrice in panic.

"Who—who the hell is that?!"

Beatrice's heart started racing.

Their eyes locked, and both immediately thought of the gas explosion incident.

They glanced at the clock. Exactly midnight.

The doorbell rang again, sharp and loud.

It was so creepy it could rival any horror movie jump scare.

Instinctively, they both stepped back, putting some distance between themselves and the door.

Just a few minutes ago, Violet had been acting all tough and confident.

Now, her face had drained of color, and fear was written all over it.

"Be honest with me," Violet said, her voice trembling despite her best effort to sound calm. "You didn't secretly order food again, did you? Still hungry or something?"

Beatrice knew Violet was just saying anything to keep them both calm.

She pulled Violet back toward the couch. "Let's just pretend we didn't hear anything. Ignore it."

"Yeah," Violet agreed, nodding.

But just as she did, she turned her head and spotted the glass door to the balcony wide open. The midnight breeze was blowing in, making the sheer white curtains flutter.

The glass door... was open!

Her mind went into a full-blown panic.

Beatrice followed her gaze, and her breath hitched. "You definitely left it open this morning! You're always in a rush and forget to close it!"

"I locked it! I swear I did! I remember locking it!" Violet's voice cracked with panic.

"Calm down! You're on the 31st floor! There's no way anyone could get in from either side! Thirty. First. Floor. This isn't a Spider-Man movie!" Beatrice snapped back.

Violet fell silent for a couple of seconds before she responded defensively, "But I remember locking it. You can doubt my looks all you want, but don't question my memory!"

Beatrice paused, trying to process the logic. So, Violet was saying the person knocking outside was a "ghost," and there was another "ghost" hiding inside? They were surrounded by ghosts?

"Let's call the cops!" Beatrice suggested, her pulse racing.

"I'm on it!" Violet grabbed her phone immediately.

Right now, only the police could save them and make them feel safe again.

Just as the call connected, the lights in the apartment flickered out with a sharp click, and the doorbell rang twice in quick succession.

Beatrice swung her phone flashlight around the dark room, her heart nearly jumping out of her chest.

The doorbell rang relentlessly, now joined by persistent knocking.

As soon as the emergency call connected, Violet urgently explained everything that was happening in her apartment.

The dispatcher told them to stay put and absolutely not open the door—officers were on their way.

She hung up.

The eerie glow from their phones cast unsettling shadows across their faces as they waited in the darkness.

They sat back-to-back on the carpet, using their phones as makeshift flashlights, scanning the room for any sign of danger.

"Is anyone there?"

Five or six minutes passed with nothing but knocking from outside—and what sounded like voices, too.

There was no way the police could arrive that quickly.

Beatrice and Violet didn't dare answer.

Then, they heard the unmistakable sound of someone picking the lock.

The next moment, the door swung open with unnerving ease.

Snapping out of their shock, they scrambled to their feet and bolted toward the nearest bathroom.

"You guys—" The person who'd entered only managed two words before their voices were drowned out by the girls' screams.
