Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Late Night Call

Beatrice waited for her to finish, her gaze sharp and cold as she looked down at her.

What exactly makes you think you’re so special? Is it your brain, which seems completely useless? Or are you proud of picking up my old stuff and acting like it’s some kind of treasure? Or maybe you’re proud of taking on the work I didn’t want, and now you think you’re better than me?

All

you ever do is stir up trouble. And the world you came from is twisted and rotten. Oh, you like hooking up with Desmond that bad? Well, he’s all yours. You two should just stick together forever.

Beatrice’s calm voice was laced with venom, each word cutting deep.

Madeline’s face twisted in rage. She was so furious, looking like she might explode.

Before Beatrice could finish, Madeline screamed in a frenzy, Shut up! I’m going to rip your mouth off! I’ll kill you!

She jumped out of her chair and stormed toward Beatrice, aiming to slap her.

Beatrice didn’t flinch.

Just as Madeline was about to reach her, Beatrice slammed. the file in her hand right into her face. The impact knocked. Madeline back, blood gushing from her nose.

Group,Beatrice said, turning and walking out without another word.

You’re dead, Beatrice! I swear, I won’t let you get away with this!Madeline’s screams echoed through the building, so loud it felt like the walls might shake.

No one from the project team dared to approach her.

Beatrice walked out of the office, and after a few steps, the others slowly gathered around her, showing concern and sympathy.

Lucy Miller, the leader of Group Three, walked into the office under pressure.

She carefully picked up Beatrice’s things, wiping them off before packing them into a box. Ms. Lawson, let me take these downstairs for you.

Beatrice was deeply touched, her eyes threatening to tear up.

Even though this was the darkest point in her life, there was still a silver lining.

Thanks, she smiled, grateful for the gesture.

Then the team walked her to the elevator, and Lucy helped her carry her things all the way downstairs.

Before they parted ways, Beatrice turned to Lucy.

Tell everyone to focus on their own work, and don’t mess with that spoiled brat. Let her play around for a while. If she gets bored, maybe she’ll leave. And if something goes wrong with the project under her, just go straight to Desmond.

With a short pause, Beatrice continued, Don’t wait for her to pin the blame on you. You won’t be able to handle a project worth billions of dollars. Once Desmond knows it’s her fault, I’m sure he’ll take care of it.

Lucy nodded. I’ll pass the word.

Beatrice gave her a hug. Stay in touch.

As she drove away from Summit Group, it began to rain, each drop weighing heavy on her heart.

It made her sad, somehow.

In just ten more days, everything would be over.

After Beatrice left, Madeline stormed upstairs to complain about her.

Quentin was there at the time. Seeing her swollen, red nose,

looked confused.

What happened to you?He asked worriedly.

Madeline sat between them, nearly crying her heart out.

I was just trying to be nice. Made Beatrice coffee and even gave her my seat. But the second she walked in, she started insulting me. She called me shameless and even insulted Desmond.

I had workrelated questions for her, but I didn’t say anything. She wasn’t satisfied just yelling at me. She attacked me, threw the handover documents in my face, and pinned me down on the floor to beat me.

Desmond’s face darkened, and he didn’t say a word.

Quentin could hardly believe it. His anger flared up. Is she crazy? She’s completely out of line! Desmond, what do we do about this?

Desmond’s voice was calm as he replied, I’ll apologize to Madeline for her. Beatrice’s been a little emotional lately.

Madeline was stunned. She had expected Desmond to take her side, maybe even call Beatrice out on this, but instead, he was offering to apologize. That only made her more frustrated.

Why did you apologize for her? I want her to apologize on her knees! And I want to hit her back!

Desmond’s eyes turned icy. That’s not happening.

you. I didn’t really mean to cause trouble. I was just venting. Don’t be mad.

Quentin couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

Watching his sister lower herself like this for someone with no real standing was too much to bear.

But Desmond,Madeline pouted, trying to act sweet and innocent, after everything I’ve been through, you have to make it up to me.

Desmond’s expression softened just a little.

Of course,he said, his tone much warmer.

Madeline left in a huff, still angry but trying to hide it behind a mask of sweetness.

Beatrice arrived home and soon got a call from Scarlett.

Hey honey, tomorrow afternoon, Lighthouse Group’s CEO, Mr. Langley, is meeting with Damian to play golf. I’ve already told him I’m bringing someone along. You better show him your skills!

Sweetheart, you’re the best! Mwah!

Ugh, stop, you’re making me cringe. We’ll see each other on Wednesday, okay?
