She tensed up once more.

I tried on that suit,Damian said casually, breaking the silence.

The replacement suitthe one she’d bought after ruining his expensive one.

How was it?Beatrice asked, managing a small smile.

Not great. Shoulders are too tight, and the pants don’t quite reach my ankles.

Beatrice froze and sighed with distress inwardly. I’m so sorry. Let me just pay you back for the original one instead.

Damian remained silent, his dark eyes fixed on her with an intensity that made her breath catch. His expression was impossible to read, like a mask carved from stone.

As the elevator doors slid shut between them, Beatrice stood frozen in place, her mind racing to understand what had just happened.

What did Damian mean?

Did he agree or not?

Why didn’t he give her a definite answer?

Speculating was truly exhausting, and that was precisely why Beatrice had fled after only a few words with him. Conversing with Damian was so stressful that her brain cells would perish within minules.

She caught herself midcomplaint, guilt suddenly washing over her. Here she was, nitpicking at him when he’d literally saved her life, stepped up to testify for her tonight, and even tracked her down to the park because he was worried.

Well, she might have been an ungrateful brat.

Beatrice walked into her apartment.

After throwing her bag aside, she leaned forward on the sofa, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

At the police station, Desmond stared at the photos the police had placed before him. Eight men and one womanthe men’s faces twisted with the kind of ugliness that came from the inside out, like sewer rats in human form.

His stomach churned at the thought of Beatrice at their mercy. The idea of these monsters laying their hands on his wife made him physically ill.

God, how terrified must she have been?

Your wife told us that she was drugged last night and taken to a hotel room. She called you three times, but you didn’t answer the first two times. It was only on the third attempt that she got through, yet it was Madeline, who picked up the phone. Your wife recorded that conversation, and I’m going to play it for you. now.

With that, the policeman pressed the button.

For the second time, Desmond listened to the recording, and once more, he was thoroughly tormented.

The policeman just mentioned that Beatrice had called him three times. All the details combined to reveal the cruel truth he couldn’t ignore. Desmond rested his head in his arms, his eyes. misty.

Tell me, why didn’t you answer your wife’s call? Why was your phone in Ms. Madeline’s hands?

The policeman’s lone was detached and frigid, subtly laced with a trace of disdain.

Desmond calmed down and raised his head. I was working overtime at the company last night. Madeline entered my office and took my phone, saying she wanted to play games. I was so busy with work that I didn’t stop her.

You expect us to believe you just happened to hand over your personal phone to your mistress? The officer’s skeptical tone made it clear he wasn’t buying Desmond’s flimsy excuse.

You can check the surveillance footage. There are cameras installed in my office.

Don’t worry. We will investigate it.

In two other rooms, Madeline and Autumn were undergoing interrogation as well.

Madeline cried and put all the blame on Autumn.

When questioned about whether Desmond was implicated, she categorically denied it. She then exclaimed fervently that it had absolutely no connection with him, that he was completely in the dark, and that during the phone call, her sole intention was to provoke Beatrice.

Her performance was sickeningprotecting her precious man while throwing everyone else under the bus. As if the whole world could burn as long as her darling Desmond was safe.

Given her actions, the two police officers handling her interrogation were so disgusted that they felt like spitting at her.

Autumn sat on a chair in the interrogation room, ashamed and embarrassed.

In response to every question, she provided a full and detailed account.

Autumn had never suffered such a humiliation.

Her gut twisted with regret. She’d thought the Fairfax family’s daughter would be perfect that Madeline would make an ideal daughterinlaw. Who knew the girl would turn out more terrifying than a ghost?

To do something so vicious and then pin it all on herThere was no way she’d ever let that girl marry into the Belmont family!

Legal teams from both the Belmont and Fairfax families rushed to the police station, frantically working to arrange bail.

But Violet had seen this coming. She stood her ground, presenting additional evidence to the officers and firmly stating Beatrice’s demands.

She was determined to see Madeline face consequences for her actions. Desmond, meanwhile, would spend the night in custodyhis release wouldn’t be processed until eight the next morning.

Violet pulled up to Beatrice’s apartment at 2 AM, fresh from the police station. Inside, she found Beatrice already awake after catching a few hours of sleep. The stunning red dress was gone, replaced by comfortable clothes, her face scrubbed clean of makeup. She was methodically filling a suitcase when Violet walked in.

Got some latenight food,Violet said, holding up a takeout bag. You should eat something.

Violet and Beatrice sat on the balcony, cating barbecue and drinking beer.

Beatrice stroked the glass and gazed up at the stars in the sky.

Some people say that after completing the revenge, one should be overjoyed. That’s my feeling now.

She raised her head and downed the beer in the glass in one gulp before letting out a long sigh of relief. Great!

Staring at her clean, beautiful face and her smile, Violet felt sorry for her.

Beatrice’s marriage hadn’t just broken her heartit had nearly killed her. She’d endured it all, clinging to the hope that she could at least end things on her own terms. But Desmond couldn’t even grant her that small dignity. Even her final wish for a clean break had been denied.

He had to drive her crazy and ruin everything.

BeaticViolet’s voice cracked, afterall this, can you still believe in love? She already knew the answer.

How cruel that it didn’t matter how beautiful, successful, or kind a woman washeartbreak seemed inevitable. Why did giving everything always end in pain?

Beatrice stared into her glass, eyes distant. Getting bitten by one dog doesn’t mean I should hate every dog in existence.

But,she added softly, I’ll flinch when they come too close

now.

Violet nodded silently. After what happened, she knew it would take Beatrice a long time to trust again.

They finished the beer, the alcohol warming their blood as they lay in bed, talking about everything and nothing. They laughed until they cried, then cried until they laughed again.

As the night wore on, Beatrice finally dozed off, her arms wrapped around Violet like a lifeline.

*****

In the early morning, Beatrice dressed in a windbreaker and pushed a suitcase into the living room.

Violet embraced her. Relax and enjoy your travel. Leave the rest to me. After returning, you’ll cut all ties with him completely.

I see.

Beatrice nodded.

She decided to travel as planned. Although it was selfish to dump all the matters on Violet, she desperately yearned to flee for now, and it didn’t matter to her where in the world she ended up.

Beatrice’s flight was at eight o’clock in the morning.
