Chapter 41 At Any Cost
Does she really have a voice recorder? Is she bluffing?
Scott was sure her hands and feet were tied, but anxiety gnawed at him.
How could she hide a recorder under the table?
But then again, she did survive that sea jump…
After a quick calculation, he decided to call her bluff.
“Oh!” Beatrice’s eyes suddenly lit up. “I almost forgot, my recorder auto–syncs to the cloud every ten minutes. Is there a computer around here?”
Damian immediately had someone bring a laptop.
Scott’s face went pale, his unease growing.
Within moments, the laptop arrived, and Beatrice logged into her cloud storage.
“Got it,” she said, looking up at Scott with a triumphant smile, her finger poised to tap the screen.
“No!” Scott lunged forward, snatching the laptop and clutching it to
his chest.

“Ms. Lawson,” he stammered, “surely we can discuss this?”
“Discuss what?” she spat. “How you tried to rape me? How you
planned to keep me prisoner? If I hadn’t jumped into the sea, I’d still be your captive!”
“You’ve got it all wrong-”
“Enough!” She cut him off. “Open the laptop. Let everyone hear exactly what happened.”
‘Please,” he begged, his voice cracking. “I have a family… I’m sorry. Please show some mercy.”
“Mercy?” Beatrice’s laugh was icy. “Did you show any when you attacked me? I’m my parents‘ only daughter. If they knew I was almost violated by you, such a fucking disgusting old pervert, they’d be heartbroken!”
Beatrice was fired up. She wasn’t letting go of the computer, and had people trying to grab it.
“I was helping you!” Scott clutched the device desperately. “Okay, I said some inappropriate things, but it was just a joke! Please, forgive my moment of insanity!”
“Go to hell, you bastard! Forgive you? Only if you grab a knife and castrate yourself right now!”
“Come on, Beatrice! Don’t be too harsh! We didn’t do anything, right? I was just passing by, trying to help. Is making a few stupid comments such a crime?”
Chapter 41 At Any Cat
“You touched my leg, you pervert!”
“I was checking if you were hurt!”
They launched into a heated argument.
Just as everyone was quietly impressed by how fierce Beatrice could get, they were shocked to realize Scott had confessed.
He had indeed been to that house and had made inappropriate advances toward Beatrice!
Everyone’s eyes were filled with contempt for him.
Harper was completely stunned.
She hadn’t expected the accusations against Scott to be true.
David snorted on the phone, his voice commanding and deep, “Looks like the truth is out. Damian, you know what to do. Call the police. No mercy.”
With David’s word, it was all settled.
Scott slumped to the ground.
David added, “Ms. Lawson, you’re brave.‘
He smiled approvingly. He knew Beatrice hadn’t left the recorder there. She had bluffed Scoll.

But she was smart, subtly using Scott’s psychology at every step. She was resourceful and methodical, a real talent.
“Thank you, Mr. David Crowley,” Beatrice replied, her voice humble yet self–assured.
“Ms. Lawson, welcome aboard.”
With that, David hung up the phone.
Now, Beatrice’s heart fluttered.
Wow! Mr. David Crowley welcomed me! This is too much honor!
Then, she felt lightheaded as if she were floating.
The images and sounds around her gradually became distant and hazy.
“What’s wrong?” Damian leaned over and gently patted her cheek.
The next second, Beatrice’s head drooped toward the table.
Damian quickly caught her head with his hand, pressing his wrist against the tabletop.
He was stunned for a moment. He then cradled her face, realizing she had fainted.
Beatrice had been weak when she arrived, and the intense
argument with Scott had drained her.
Now that she had relaxed, she couldn’t hold on any longer.
Beatrice closed her eyes, feeling herself fall into an embrace.
The pleasant woody scent made her want to cry. She wanted to hide in it, let down all her guards, and be a carefree little girl.
But the next moment, she heard a familiar, irritating voice in her ear. “Beatrice, honey…”
Desmond?
No. God, no. This couldn’t be real…

Three in the morning, Beatrice was rushed to the best private hospital in the area.
The ward was equipped like a five–star hotel.
At that moment, Beatrice was fast asleep in her hospital bed, an IV drip in her arm.
Fifteen feet away, on a set of beige sofas, Damian and Desmond sat at opposite ends.
Harper slumped in an armchair behind Damian, lost in her thoughts.

Killian couldn’t stand the awkward atmosphere any longer and made an excuse to leave.
I heard Ms. Lawson fainted, Mr. Crowley carried her out, and Ms. Reed ran after them.
In the corridor, they bumped into Mr. Belmont rushing back. When he saw his wife in Mr. Crowley’s arms, he tried to grab her!
So dramatic!
“Beatrice deliberately applied for a job just to spite me. I’ll handle her resignation,” Desmond spoke first, his tone cold and arrogant.
“Her personal matters aren’t my concern. If she wants to resign, she can tell me herself,” Damian replied politely, his tone distant and leisurely.
