Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 53

Chapter 53 Blind Date?

1/9

Don’t get so worked up, Mrs. Autumn Belmont. I just wanted. to catch up and bond a little,Madeline said, her weak voice laced with a chilling undertone. After all, I’ll eventually marry Desmond, and we’ll all be one big family. Isn’t that right, Mrs. Autumn Belmont?

Madeline’s tone was sugary sweet, but it made Autumn’s blood run cold. She felt as if she were being haunted by a vengeful spirit.

This devil is going to wreak havoc on my son and the entire Belmont family! I never should’ve welcomed her into our lives! I can’t believe I did this myself, and now there’s no way to fix it.

After Beatrice had rested for five days, her leg injury had mostly healed. The past few days had been unusually peaceful, as Desmond hadn’t come to bother her.

Of course, with the Twitter scandal blowing up, Beatrice figured he was probably too busy dealing with the fallout. Madeline was being torn apart online, and the Fairfax family, now under intense scrutiny, would undoubtedly be hounding him.

Actually, Beatrice had already braced herself for trouble. After her call with Violet, she started worrying that if the Fairfax family couldn’t get to her, they might go after her parents

The thought gnawed at Beatrice until she couldn’t ignore it

anymore.

Unable to shake the feeling, she called her father that same night, suggesting he take her mother to visit her grandmother for a few days.

Officially, it was just to check in on the old lady, but in reality, it was a precautionto get them out of harm’s way, just in case.

Their conversation was brief.

There wasn’t much left to say since Violet had already explained everything. So, the questions, worries, and concerns were all left unspoken, buried under a heavy silence.

In the end, Caleb simply told Beatrice to take care of herself.

Beatrice had prepared for the worst, but nothing happened.

No one showed up in her neighborhood, no one came to her. parentshouse, and not even a single harassing call came through. Yet, the Twitter storm showed no signs of dying down.

Are they holding back for something bigger, or is it Damian they’re afraid of? Just because he stood up for me once at the charity gala, and that was enough to keep them at bay?

Speaking of Damian, ever since Beatrice started staying here, he hadn’t shown up once.

Even Gordon had moved to the servantsquarters and only

appeared during meals, either in the kitchen or the dining room. He was clearly keeping his distance.

She had to admit, Damian was not just a gentleman but surprisingly thoughtful.

In the evening, Beatrice found Gordon in the kitchen preparing dinner. She decided to help out and strike up a conversation.

She asked, Oh, yeah. I actually have been wondering. Where has Mr. Crowley been staying these days, Gordon?

Don’t worry. Mr. Crowley isn’t exactly out on the streets,Gordon replied with a chuckle. This place is just a temporary spot for him. It’s close to the office, so it’s convenient.

Since he let you stay here, he’s been back home. It worked out well, actually. Mrs. Maria Crowley and Mr. David Crowley had been wanting to spend some time with him.

Beatrice nodded in understanding. She knew that homemeant the Crowley Estate.

Gordon must have thought of something amusing because he leaned in and whispered to her, Actually, Mrs. Maria Crowley and Mr. David Crowley had Mr. Crowley come back this time for something important.

Beatrice played along and asked, Hm? Something important?

Gordon cheekily replied, Yeah, for him to go for blind dates.

Beatrice was stunned to hear him.

Gordon continued, As the eldest heir of the family, Mr. Crowley’s marriage is a top priority for them. They already pressured him about it when he came home for Christmas two years ago. He went along with it and met with a few heiresses from prominent families, but nothing came of it.

At the time, his focus was still on Astraea, so as soon as the holiday ended, he left again. Mrs. Maria Crowley couldn’t do much about it then, but now that he’s back in the country. There’s no way he’s getting out of it.

So even someone like him isn’t immune to the pressure from his parents when it comes to marriage, huh?Beatrice sighed, feeling oddly sympathetic.

She just couldn’t picture Damian being dragged into something as mundane as blind dates and marriage pressure.

A man like him, radiating untouchable brilliance, living at the very top of the pyramid, felt completely out of place in such worldly affairs. He was supposed to be mysterious, distant, above all this mundane nonsense.

That was what suited him.

Gordon sighed along, Mr. Crowley just isn’t the type to care

much about relationships, especially when it comes to romance.

Beatrice blinked, momentarily thrown off.

Is that so? Then what about Harper? Weren’t they tangled in love, hatred, and everything in between?

I mean, Damian himself did say he wasn’t into women or maybe he’s into men instead, but I refuse to believe nothing ever

happened between them. Harper wouldn’t have acted like that if there wasn’t something there.

Most likely, they really were in love, but for some unspeakable reason, Damian broke things off on his own. Harper never stopped loving him, though.

And deep down, maybe he still cares too, but he just enjoys tormenting her, watching her suffer and struggle until she’s barely holding on, because that’s the only thing that satisfies him

Beatrice let her imagination run wild for a second but kept her mouth shut.

Instead, she gave a safe, noncommittal response. No need to worry. Fate works in mysterious ways. Who knows? Maybe the next heiress he meets will walk right into his heart at first sight.

The moment she finished speaking, a deep, cool voice came from the doorway. Then I’ll take your blessing to heart.

Beatrice nearly jumped out of her skin. She turned around

sharply and saw that Damian was standing right at the kitchen

entrance.

She couldn’t help but wonder, Oh no. How long has he been there? When did he show up? How much did he hear?

Gordon, on the other hand, couldn’t even look at Damian.

He wasn’t one to gossip, but the one time he decided to indulge, he got busted. Now, the two of them, who had just been whispering behind their bossback, were absolutely mortified.

Damian shot them a cool look as he sarcastically said, What are you guys still standing there for? Since you’re so into gossip, why not just set up a podcast and spill all the tea properly?

Beatrice and Gordon exchanged awkward glances, sensing the irony in his words.

Damian withdrew his gaze and walked away from the kitchen door. Beatrice hesitated for a moment before following him, trailing behind until they reached his study.

He stepped inside, and a moment later, he came back out with at few things in hand. Without a word, he headed straight for the door, making it clear he was only here to grab something.

Just as Damian was about to step out of the entryway, Beatrice blurted out, intending to apologize.

But in her rush, she choked on her words. Waitwait, dinner’s ready. Do you want some?

Damian turned slightly, his deep, striking eyes curving with amusement as he gave her a taunting smirk. Nah. I got a blind. date to get to. Who knows? Maybe I’ll meet the onetonight.

Beatrice was instantly at a loss for words.
